Nvidia’s latest reported quarter showed very rapid growth, but historical results cannot establish how long that pace will continue—and the available figures here do not establish whether the stock is fairly valued.
What do Nvidia’s latest results show—and what don’t they show?
For the quarter ended July 26, 2026, Nvidia reported $96.2 billion in revenue, up 106% year over year, including $89.0 billion in Data Center revenue, up 117%. The company attributed the Data Center increase to the Blackwell Ultra infrastructure ramp. These are company-reported results for FY2027 Q2, not a forecast or a demonstrated ongoing growth rate. The scale of Data Center revenue makes spending on AI infrastructure central to the investment case. If customers slow purchases, delay projects, or get less use from the capacity they have built, Nvidia could miss expectations even if its revenue remains substantial. The relevant question is not simply whether AI demand exists, but how much future spending and growth investors are assuming.

How much does Nvidia rely on a few customers?
Customer concentration is material in the company’s disclosures. One direct customer accounted for 16% of FY2027 Q2 revenue; in the first half of FY2027, three direct customers accounted for 16%, 15%, and 13% of revenue, respectively. A change in the purchasing plans of a large buyer can therefore have an outsized effect on reported results. Nvidia’s FY2027 Q2 Form 10-Q

Those percentages are for direct customers, not a complete map of who ultimately uses Nvidia’s products. Nvidia says some indirect customers individually represent 10% or more of revenue; it estimates indirect-customer revenue using several inputs, including purchase orders, product specifications, and internal sales data. The filing also says an AI research and deployment company contributed a meaningful amount of revenue by purchasing cloud services from Nvidia’s customers. As a result, end-user exposure may be concentrated in ways that direct-customer figures alone do not show.
Could export controls and China-related risks affect the business?
Nvidia said it was effectively foreclosed from China’s data center compute market as of the end of FY2027 Q2. It reported that Data Center Hopper shipments to China were less than 1% of Data Center revenue for that quarter. Some products not subject to the controls, including gaming and workstation GPUs, could still ship. The filing describes China as a constrained market, but does not establish how future rules or possible approvals will affect sales. Nvidia’s FY2027 Q2 Form 10-Q
The risk is broader than the loss of a single market. Nvidia says export restrictions have affected its competitive position and may change again; licensing requirements could delay or prevent shipments, while foreign-government responses, compliance costs, or customer substitution could affect markets beyond China. The company also disclosed a preliminary Chinese antitrust finding dated September 15, 2025, concerning compliance with U.S. export controls and the terms of China’s approval of the Mellanox acquisition. That is a preliminary finding described by Nvidia, not a final adjudication established here.

Nvidia says it depends on consistent supply from overseas partners, especially in Taiwan and South Korea. Disruption or new restrictions affecting components, parts, or services from these regions could impede its ability to meet demand. The company also makes long-term commitments to secure supply and capacity, procure cloud services, and lease data center capacity; some payments may extend for years and may be difficult to reduce if demand changes. These exposures are linked. Customer demand, supplier availability, project completion, power, permits, and financing all need to align. Nvidia describes guarantees, credit support, financing arrangements, and data center leases supporting customers’ and partners’ infrastructure. It also warns that counterparties may lack capital or infrastructure, projects may be delayed or exceed budgets, and power constraints, permits, regulation, or community opposition may delay or prevent data center operations. A mismatch could leave capacity or costs out of line with demand; the filing does not assign a probability to such an outcome.
How could product transitions affect inventory and margins?
Nvidia reported a 75.0% gross margin for FY2027 Q2. For that quarter, it recorded $985 million in inventory and excess purchase-obligation provisions, with an unfavorable net gross-margin impact of 0.8 percentage points. For the first half of FY2027, the provisions were $2.1 billion and the unfavorable impact was 1.0 percentage point. These company-reported figures illustrate how product transitions, demand changes, or export rules can affect inventory, commitments, and profitability. Nvidia’s FY2027 Q2 Form 10-Q

The filing also refers to a $4.5 billion H20-related excess inventory and purchase-obligation charge in the first half of FY2026. That is a historical example, not evidence of a recurring annual cost. Investors should consider whether future product transitions and changing demand could create similar pressure, without assuming that the earlier charge will repeat.
Could competition, regulation, or legal issues constrain Nvidia?
Nvidia’s FY2026 Form 10-K says competition regulators in the European Union, United States, United Kingdom, China, and South Korea have made broad requests for information. The topics include GPU sales and supply allocation, markets, competition, strategy, roadmaps, foundation-model investments and partnerships, and customer or partner agreements. Nvidia says responding can be costly and burdensome and may affect relationships. These requests are inquiries, not findings of wrongdoing; possible business effects include compliance costs, delay, restrictions, or reputational harm. Nvidia’s FY2026 Form 10-K

How should valuation factor into the decision?
A strong business can still be a poor investment if the purchase price assumes more growth, higher margins, or a longer-lasting competitive advantage than the company delivers. Nvidia’s reported growth alone cannot answer whether its stock is attractive at a particular price. The available disclosures here do not establish a current share price, valuation multiple, or market-implied growth rate, so they cannot support a claim that NVDA is cheap or expensive.
Before deciding, compare the price with a range of possible revenue-growth, margin, capital-spending, and cash-flow outcomes over a stated investment horizon. Include a slower AI infrastructure spending scenario, and consider how changing interest rates, market risk appetite, or an earnings disappointment could affect the share price even if Nvidia remains profitable.
What should an investor check before buying?
- Demand: Decide what future AI infrastructure spending and Nvidia growth your investment case requires, rather than projecting one quarter’s growth indefinitely.
- Customer exposure: Account for direct-customer concentration and the limits of estimating indirect and ultimate end-customer exposure.
- Policy and geography: Consider the China market constraint, shifting export rules, and dependence on overseas supply partners.
- Execution and financial commitments: Assess how supply, projects, power, counterparties, capacity commitments, and product transitions could affect costs and margins.
- Price and risk tolerance: Use a dated market price, a consistent valuation method, and an explicit time horizon; decide how much loss or volatility you can tolerate if growth expectations fall.
For comparisons with other semiconductor or AI-infrastructure companies, align fiscal periods and definitions. Useful comparison dimensions include customer and end-market concentration, export exposure, supplier geography, product-cycle and inventory risk, margin sensitivity, capacity commitments, regulatory exposure, growth assumptions, valuation, and downside under slower spending.
