There is no universal, independently verified PC specification for PS5 emulation. RPCS5 publishes its own minimum and recommended configurations, but that early-stage project guidance is not a promise that a specific game will run. Other projects set different expectations and report experimental or incomplete compatibility. If you are deciding whether to upgrade, check the requirements and status for the exact emulator and game first.
What hardware do PS5 emulator projects recommend?
RPCS5 publishes the most detailed component tiers among the project documentation covered here. These are RPCS5’s own requirements, not standardized benchmarks or independently tested results. The project lists release 0.4.2 as released on September 9, 2026; check its current page before relying on these volatile details.

| Component | RPCS5 minimum | RPCS5 recommended |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | x64 Intel or AMD processor with 8 cores | 8 cores and 16 threads or more; AMD Zen 3 or newer, or Intel Alder Lake or newer |
| CPU instruction support | RPCS5 says CPUs without AVX-512 and with fewer than eight cores may run poorly; it does not list AVX-512 as a universal requirement | Not separately stated by RPCS5 |
| Graphics | AMD RX 400 series or newer, NVIDIA GTX 10 series or newer, or Intel Arc 3 or newer | AMD RX 5000 series or newer, NVIDIA RTX 2000 series or newer, or Intel Arc 7 or newer |
| Memory | 8 GB; RPCS5 calls this the absolute minimum and recommends dual-channel memory | At least 16 GB, dual-channel |
| Storage | SSD or HDD | SSD for the emulator |
RPCS5 also estimates 1,024 MB for base emulator data, 8 GB for cache, and 512 MB per game. These are figures from that project, not general PS5-emulation storage standards. Its stability notice describes the software as being in a very early stage of development and warns that errors, bugs, and games that fail to boot can occur. See RPCS5’s requirements and stability information.

Why do requirements differ between projects?
PS5 emulators are separate projects with different capabilities and maturity. Their component lists should not be treated as equivalent recommendations: the projects do not establish that they use the same workload or testing method.

SharpEmu: Vulkan support, but no comparable component tier
SharpEmu says a Vulkan-capable GPU and a current graphics driver are required, but the repository passage reviewed does not give a comparable detailed CPU, GPU, and RAM minimum. The project describes itself as experimental and early-stage: it can load real-game eboot.bin files, execute native CPU instructions, and partially handle GPU-related functionality, while its stated focus is accuracy and infrastructure rather than game-specific compatibility. It warns that performance and compatibility vary by game, operating system, and GPU driver. See the SharpEmu repository.
shadPS5: informal targets are not a reliable baseline
shadPS5 lists an AVX2-capable CPU, Vulkan-capable graphics (illustrated with a GTX 1060 or RX 560 as a minimum), and 16 GB of RAM as a desired configuration. Its page also labels the project in development, says core emulation work is in progress, and says games are not yet playable. Because those status statements and requirements have a different scope from RPCS5’s guidance, do not treat this component list as a dependable minimum for PS5 emulation. See shadPS5’s project page.

Will your PC run a PS5 game?
A component list alone cannot answer that. A PC that meets RPCS5’s recommended tier is not thereby guaranteed to run a particular game, and a project page’s feature or gameplay claims do not establish broad compatibility. SharpEmu explicitly says results vary with the game, operating system, and graphics driver; RPCS5 warns that some games may not boot.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Identify the PS5 emulator you intend to use and read its latest requirements.
- Look for compatibility information for the exact game, not only a general project status or hardware list.
- Check operating-system support, graphics API requirements, and whether your GPU driver is current.
- Recheck before buying or upgrading hardware, because project requirements and compatibility are changing.
Do not use PS4 emulator requirements as a substitute
PS4 and PS5 emulation are different targets. shadPS4’s quickstart identifies it as a PS4 emulator, so its hardware requirements do not establish what a PS5 emulator needs. Its documentation says games, updates, and DLC are copyrighted and must be dumped from the user’s own copy; that guidance is specific to shadPS4 and should not be mistaken for a PS5 emulator specification. See the shadPS4 quickstart.

What to prioritize if you are upgrading
If you are comparing your existing PC with RPCS5’s published guidance, start with the components where its tiers are explicit: an eight-core CPU, a GPU from the listed generation or newer, and 16 GB of dual-channel memory for the recommended configuration. For SharpEmu, Vulkan support and a current graphics driver are explicit requirements. RPCS5 recommends SSD storage for the emulator, while its minimum permits an SSD or HDD.
These are project-specific pointers, not tested product recommendations. No named graphics card or processor can be described as guaranteed to run PS5 games on the basis of these project pages.
