What OMA Returns When Its Test Gate Fails

In an OMA 15.0.13 fixture, a failed test gate returned a JSON block decision even though the hook command exited 0. The test process itself exited 1.

In the reported OMA 15.0.13 fixture, a failed test gate returned a JSON decision of block with the reason Stop gate 'test' FAILED (reinforcement 1/5). The test process exited with status 1, even though the oma hook run command itself exited 0. The hook’s exit code alone therefore did not mean the tests passed.

What the failed gate response means

The response in this manual Stop-hook run carried the failure in its JSON decision: "decision":"block". Its accompanying reason identified the gate and reported reinforcement 1/5. Those fields—not the hook command’s zero exit status—showed that the configured test gate had failed.

There were two separate process results: the configured test process exited 1, while the hook command exited 0. Read the gate response and the test process status as distinct signals; do not treat the hook command’s status as a substitute for the test result.

Why the fixture test failed

The fixture checked whether an item was expired at its expiry time. The intended boundary condition was that it should count as expired when now === expiresAt, but the implementation used now > expiresAt. At equality, that comparison returned false, so the boundary test failed.

The reported test output included not ok 2 - at expiry: expired, # pass 2, and # fail 1. A manual call to OMA’s Stop hook reran the configured test script and returned the block decision.

What changed after the fix

The fixture comparison was changed from > to >=, so an item was treated as expired at equality as intended. The rerun reported three passes and zero failures.

On the next Stop call, the gate ran and returned empty stdout. The fixture then recorded gate.passed, followed by session.ended with reason completion_gate_passed.

Scope of this example

This is a report of a local OMA 15.0.13 fixture with manually invoked hooks, not a recorded autonomous-agent session or a production incident. It shows the configured gate’s behavior on the fixture’s tests; it does not establish general correctness or confirm that current OMA source or documentation behaves the same way.

The indexed article gives this reproduction command: python3 reproduce.py --oma-source /path/to/oh-my-agent --output /path/to/new-demo-run. It says the script requires Python 3, Git, Node, and Bun. The evidence for the result comes from the indexed article text; the article page could not be independently opened, and no official source was available to verify whether this behavior remains current.
