NVIDIA Web Drivers are graphics drivers for certain NVIDIA GPUs in supported Mac configurations. They help macOS use compatible NVIDIA graphics hardware; they are not universal Mac drivers, and they are distinct from NVIDIA’s CUDA drivers. To identify a compatible package, match the exact macOS build—not just the version number—along with the Mac model and GPU requirements listed for that release.
What NVIDIA Web Drivers do
A graphics driver lets macOS communicate with supported NVIDIA graphics hardware for display and graphics functions. A Web Driver package is therefore software for a bounded set of Mac, macOS-build, and GPU combinations—not a general-purpose update for every Mac or NVIDIA card.

NVIDIA’s legacy release page for version 387.10.10.10.40.130 names Mac Pro 5,1 as its target and lists additional models with beta support. Those qualifications belong to that release; they should not be generalized to other packages or hardware. NVIDIA release 387.10.10.10.40.130

Why the exact macOS build matters
macOS has both a user-facing version, such as 10.13.6, and a more specific system build. NVIDIA’s historical release pages tie packages to the build as well as the macOS version. Two packages can list the same macOS version but require different builds, so checking only “10.13.6” is not enough to identify the right installer.

| NVIDIA release | Release date | macOS version and required build | Documented hardware scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| 387.10.10.10.40.130 | July 30, 2019 | High Sierra 10.13.6, build 17G8030 | Mac Pro 5,1 target; additional models listed with beta support. NVIDIA release page |
| 387.10.10.10.40.140 | November 17, 2020 | High Sierra 10.13.6, build 17G14042 | Not stated on the cited release page. NVIDIA release page |
The comparison shows why the build number is decisive: both releases name High Sierra 10.13.6, but one specifies 17G8030 and the other 17G14042. Do not infer compatibility from a nearby driver version or treat package numbers as interchangeable.
How to check whether a package matches
- Find the Mac’s exact build: Open About This Mac and click the macOS version text to reveal the build number, as NVIDIA’s release instructions describe.
- Open the exact NVIDIA release page: Compare the Mac’s build with the system requirements stated for that package. For the cited 387.10.10.10.40.130 release, NVIDIA explicitly requires High Sierra 10.13.6, build 17G8030.
- Check the hardware scope: Confirm that the Mac model and NVIDIA GPU are covered by that release’s requirements. A matching build alone does not establish hardware compatibility.
- Identify the job you need the driver to do: Separate graphics/display support from CUDA application requirements; they are related but not the same compatibility check.
- Follow that package’s installation notes: The cited instructions describe a Security & Privacy approval step and a restart. Installation behavior may differ by release, so use the instructions for the package in hand.
NVIDIA’s Driver Manager includes an Updates tab that shows the installed Web Driver version and can check online for updates. That feature does not mean a compatible release exists for every macOS build.

Web Drivers and CUDA drivers are different
NVIDIA’s Web Driver release pages mention CUDA application support, but NVIDIA also maintained a separate CUDA-for-Mac driver archive. A Web Driver and a CUDA driver should not be treated as interchangeable: the graphics driver question is whether macOS and the hardware match the Web Driver package, while CUDA adds its own application and driver compatibility requirements.
The cited CUDA archive lists CUDA 418.163 dated May 10, 2019; that is an entry in the CUDA-for-Mac archive, not a Web Driver release. NVIDIA CUDA Drivers for MAC Archive

What the available release records establish
The cited official examples concern legacy macOS High Sierra releases, including 10.13.1 build 17B48 in a November 2017 release and the 10.13.6 examples above. They establish NVIDIA’s historical matching requirements for those specific packages; they do not establish support for later macOS versions or a current compatible installer. Do not assume an archived package is supported on a current macOS installation.
For any package under consideration, base the decision on its own release notes: exact macOS build, Mac model, GPU compatibility, release version and date, and whether the need is graphics/display operation or CUDA. If any of those requirements are unclear or absent from the page, compatibility is not established by the release examples here.
