LeanZero Management’s clearest difference is dependency scheduling on a working calendar. When one Jira work item moves, the items that depend on it move too, skipping weekends and holidays, and the planned changes can be reviewed before they are written back to Jira. Against Jira Plans (formerly Advanced Roadmaps), that is a specific and checkable gap. Against the established Jira PPM and Gantt apps, it is not the broader tool. The comparison that makes this case was written by a LeanZero employee, and it concedes that several of those apps already offer cascading schedules and critical-path views and support a fuller set of dependency types.
What LeanZero Management is
LeanZero Management is a Jira Cloud app for Gantt scheduling and portfolio planning. Its Atlassian Marketplace listing, as it read in early October 2026, says it works directly with existing Jira issues and can build a plan from a JQL query, a board, or a single project, including work that spans several Jira projects.

The listing names these capabilities: cascading dependencies on a working calendar, buffers, critical path, baselines, plan-health reporting, workload views, CSV export, staged write-back, drafts and write locks, optional AI review, and portfolio planning. These are the vendor’s own descriptions. No independent test of them is available.

In LeanZero’s comparison, the author says Jira Plans’ auto-scheduler takes into account status, dates, sprints, releases, estimates, team capacity and velocity, ranking, and hierarchy, but not weekends or individual absences and holidays. That is the gap the app is built around. The three points below describe how that difference shows up in practice, as the vendor describes it.

Dependent work moves on the working calendar
According to the listing, moving one task reschedules the dependent work on the plan’s working calendar and around holidays. Consider a finish-to-start link with zero lag. Suppose the predecessor finishes on Thursday 15 October 2026 and Friday 16 October is a company holiday. The successor starts on Monday 19 October, the next working day, rather than on Friday. This is an illustrative calculation of the stated rule, not a recorded test.
Planned changes are staged before they reach Jira
LeanZero also stages planned changes so they can be reviewed before they are applied to Jira. The listing names staged write-back, drafts, and write locks as part of this workflow. A schedule change that moves several dependent items is therefore a set of proposed edits that a planner reviews before the Jira issues change. The comparison treats this staged Apply step as separate from the plan protection behavior described later in this article.

Where it does not stand out
The comparison is explicit that LeanZero is not a superset of the established tools. Speaking of Jira Plans, the author writes: “Against Plans, which is where you are now, that’s the difference. Against Structure and BigPicture it isn’t more complete. Narrower.” The table below summarises the author’s descriptions of each tool as of the comparison post dated 24 August 2026. “Not stated” means the comparison does not cover that point.
| Tool | Cascading scheduling | Critical path | Non-working days | Dependency link types |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LeanZero Management | Yes, on a working calendar | Listed in the app description | Weekends and holidays on the working calendar | Finish-to-start with positive lag only |
| Jira Plans | Has an auto-scheduler, which does not account for weekends or individual absences or holidays | Not stated | Weekends and individual absences or holidays not considered | Not stated |
| BigPicture | Yes | Yes | Per-person absences and holiday plans | Fuller set than LeanZero supports |
| Structure with Gantt Charts for Structure | Yes | Yes | Work-calendar handling; details not stated | Fuller set than LeanZero supports |
| WBS Gantt-Chart | Yes | Yes | Work-calendar handling; details not stated | Fuller set than LeanZero supports |
BigPicture goes further on non-working time
The author says BigPicture handles non-working days through per-person absences and holiday plans, which goes further than LeanZero’s described implementation. If your dates depend on individual leave rather than a shared holiday list, that is the stronger comparison. The comparison does not describe LeanZero handling individual absences in the same way.

- Fight Ink-bleeding & Great Size: The high-end 100gsm paper could prevent ink bleeding through or feathering, handle double-sided writing and most daily use pens pretty well. The office/business work notebook measures 7.5"x 10"(similar to B5 size), Generous size provides ample space to jot down your meeting notes.
- Each 160 Pages Per Book: Provide ample space for note taking & planning and with the date section at the top for tracking them. With 160 pages for meeting minutes, the manager notebook will cover more than half a year, even in daily use. Also provides index pages for organizing this office planner.
- Better Tool Drives Better Meetings: The hassle of organizing the chaotic meeting notes VS this professional meeting notebook. Definitely a step up! Everything is neatly zoned on each page makes it a breeze to fill them out and ensure all you need are accounted for.
Structure and WBS Gantt-Chart
The author lists Structure, with its separate Gantt Charts for Structure app, and WBS Gantt-Chart as already providing cascading scheduling, critical-path views, and work-calendar handling. The comparison does not detail how either one treats non-working days, so this article does not compare them further on that point.
Where the dependency model is narrower
As of the 24 August 2026 comparison, LeanZero’s dependency model is limited in three ways:

- It supports finish-to-start links with positive lag.
- It does not support start-to-start, finish-to-finish, or start-to-finish links.
- It does not support lead or overlap.
The practical consequence is that work which should begin before its predecessor finishes, such as a build that starts once a design is partly signed off, cannot be expressed as a dependency in this app. Such items have to be planned as independent, or handled outside the tool.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhich teams this difference matters for
The difference matters most when work items form chains. The author frames the fit question as “do the features on your quarterly roadmap block each other, or are they independent?” If the items are independent, the author says LeanZero’s differences from Plans sit in the dependency chain and give teams less reason to switch. If they do form chains, three checks settle whether the app fits:

- Are your roadmap items linked by finish-to-start dependencies with zero or positive lag? If your links use other types or overlap, the dependency model will not capture them.
- When a date slips, should dependent work move automatically on your calendar, or should you be told the plan broke and decide yourself? The author poses exactly this question. LeanZero’s scheduling suits the first preference. If you want slips surfaced for a decision, test how plan protection behaves before relying on it.
- Do individual absences drive your dates? If they do, compare BigPicture’s per-person absence handling before choosing.
Plan protection can change Jira dates without a staged Apply
The most important operational caveat appears in the same comparison discussion. Plan protection is enabled by default, and at the time of that post there was no user-interface switch to turn it off. A Jira trigger watches planned tickets. If a dependent ticket is moved to an earlier start date than its blocker allows, the trigger puts that ticket’s start date back and adds a comment to the ticket. Because this runs in response to ticket changes, it is separate from the staged Apply flow, which a planner starts on purpose.
Because the app is actively versioned, check its current Marketplace documentation for whether this behavior, or a switch for it, has changed. For a team that depends on exact start dates, a non-production Jira project is a sensible place to observe the behavior before enabling the workflow on a live portfolio.
Permissions and data handling
The Marketplace privacy and security page lists permissions to read Jira issues and related data, and to create and edit issues and pages. The vendor’s data processing agreement lists what the app processes: Atlassian account IDs and display names, work-item summaries and dates, project descriptions and comments sent to AI features, per-person capacity, and audit logs. It states that the apps run on Forge, store data in Forge on the customer’s Atlassian site, and that LeanZero Management and Sentinel Vault send no data outside Atlassian. It also says AI features use Forge LLM or Atlassian-hosted models by default.

How to compare it with other Jira PPM tools
Use the same six dimensions for every tool on your shortlist. Each one changes planning outcomes:
Quick Recap
- Calendar behavior: Does the tool account for weekends, public holidays, and individual absences, and how is each configured?
- Dependency model: Which link types are supported, and are lead and overlap available?
- Change safety: Are edits staged or applied immediately, and does any background rule change Jira dates?
- Schedule visibility: Does it show critical path, baseline variance, buffers, and milestones, and can you drill from a metric down to the Jira issue?
- Portfolio and capacity scope: Can it combine several projects, and does it model availability or only flag overload?
- Deployment and governance: Is it available for Jira Cloud only or also Data Center, what permissions does it request, and where is data processed, including the AI defaults?
What this comparison does not establish
- There is no independent head-to-head test of LeanZero against Jira Plans or any other app. The description of Jira Plans comes from a LeanZero employee.
- No benchmark, user survey, or performance study is available for this comparison.
- Marketplace install counts and ratings differ between listing snapshots, so they are not used here as evidence of adoption or quality.
- Features, privacy terms, and availability can change. Recheck the Marketplace listing and the vendor’s documents before making a purchase or security decision.
