It is access, not ownership: you can play an included game while your subscription is active and the game remains in the catalog.
How Xbox Game Pass works
You choose a plan, then access the games and benefits included with that plan on supported platforms. You may download and play compatible games on a console or Windows PC, or stream supported titles through Xbox Cloud Gaming when your plan, game, region and device are eligible. The subscription does not guarantee that every catalog game works on every platform.

Xbox’s availability notice says: “Game titles, number, features, and availability vary over time, by region, Game Pass plan, and platform.” Check the current plan comparison and the listing for an individual game before subscribing, especially if you need a specific title or want to play it on more than one kind of device.

Which Game Pass plans are available?
Xbox’s US plan pages, checked October 7, 2026, list four options. The catalog sizes below are live-page figures shown by Xbox on that date, not independently counted totals or figures tied to a publication date. Plan names, features and availability can differ by market.

What changes between Xbox and PC?
On an Xbox console
Game Pass plans that include console access let you download compatible games to an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, subject to the game’s platform support. Online console multiplayer is included with some plans, not all; check the plan comparison rather than assuming a subscription includes it.

On a Windows PC
PC Game Pass is for Windows PC. Browse and launch its games with the Xbox PC app. Xbox lists Windows 10/11 version 22H2 or higher as a requirement, and each game has its own hardware requirements; some games may also need a newer Windows update. A plan that includes both console and PC access does not mean every title is available on both.

Xbox distinguishes games downloaded and played on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One or Windows PC from games streamed through the cloud. Its listed cloud-compatible device types include phones and tablets, selected smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, Meta VR headsets and a browser at xbox.com/play. Device and regional support can change, so verify that your device and game are supported.

How Xbox Cloud Gaming works
Cloud gaming streams a supported game to a compatible device instead of running it locally. The cloud catalog is not the same as the full Game Pass library: Xbox says most Game Pass library titles and select free-to-play games are cloud playable. Subscribers can also stream select cloud-playable games they own or buy outside Game Pass.
What you need
- An eligible Game Pass plan, a supported game and a supported region.
- A compatible device and a reliable internet connection. Xbox lists a 10 Mbps minimum download speed and says some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. Its guidance is 10 Mbps on mobile and 20 Mbps on consoles, PCs and tablets; it recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- A compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB for games that require one. Select games offer Xbox touch controls.
Streaming quality also depends on your connection, location and device. Monthly cloud playtime limits vary by eligible plan. Cloud hours from multiple subscriptions do not stack, and PC Game Pass does not include cloud gaming. See Xbox’s Cloud Gaming FAQ for current eligibility and limits.

Do you own Game Pass games?
No. A Game Pass subscription provides temporary access to catalog games, not permanent ownership of each included title. You lose access if your subscription expires or is canceled, or if a game leaves the library. Catalog membership and availability can change, so check the current listing for a game you plan to play.

How billing and cancellation work
Recurring billing is on by default. Xbox says you can turn it off through your Microsoft account or console; consult Xbox’s cancellation and recurring-billing guidance for the current steps and terms. Xbox’s FAQ describes a possible refund for the most recent recurring charge if you were charged and cancel within 30 days, limited to one time per Microsoft account per subscription product. Refund eligibility and terms can change, so check the current terms for your account and region.
How to choose a plan
- Start with your device. If you play on Windows PC only, PC Game Pass is the PC-specific option. For console, or a mix of console and PC, compare the other plans and each game’s supported platforms.
- Decide whether day-one releases matter. Xbox lists them for Ultimate and PC Game Pass; Essential does not include day-one new releases. Premium’s listed timing for new Xbox-published games is within one year of launch.
- Check console multiplayer. Xbox lists online console multiplayer with Ultimate and Essential. Confirm the current comparison for any other plan or market.
- Look at the benefits you would actually use. The plans differ in catalog size, cloud eligibility and bundled benefits such as EA Play. Counts and inclusions are live-page claims, not a promise that a particular game is available.
- Check local price and availability. Prices and plan details vary by market and can change. Compare the current local plan page and game catalog before paying.
