+voicerecord has two different meanings in the material available: a Steam Community guide describes it as a command for recording Team Fortress 2 voice chat, while an article titled “What is +Voicerecord?” describes a voice-recording service. That service description has not been independently verified, so the name alone is not enough to identify a confirmed product.
What does +Voicerecord refer to?
The clearest technical use documented in the available material is +voicerecord, which a Steam Community guide calls a Team Fortress 2 voice-chat recording command. The guide also describes related settings and a stop command. It is community-authored, not official Valve documentation, and current compatibility has not been confirmed.

A separate article on BlinksAndButtons, dated September 17, 2026, characterizes “+Voicerecord” as a service for recording, storing, and managing voice recordings. Those are claims made by that article; independent product documentation confirming the service or its features has not been established. Do not assume the service and the TF2 command are connected.
How does the TF2 voice-recording command work?
According to the Steam Community guide, its described setup uses voice_writevoices 1 to enable writing voice audio, then +voicerecord to start and -voicerecord to stop and save a recording. The guide does not establish that these commands work in every current game version.
#1 Best Overall
- In the game’s console, enter
voice_writevoices 1, as the guide instructs. - Enter
+voicerecordto begin recording, according to the guide. - Enter
-voicerecordto stop and save the recording, according to the guide.
If a command is unrecognized or does not produce a recording, the community guide alone cannot resolve whether the cause is version compatibility, configuration, or another issue. The available material does not provide an official Valve procedure or a verified current-version troubleshooting path.
Will it record your own microphone?
The Steam Community guide says voice_loopback 1 makes your microphone audible and included in the recording; it says leaving loopback disabled avoids recording your microphone. Treat this as the guide’s description, not a universal or officially confirmed behavior. If capturing your own voice matters, check the resulting file before relying on it.

How is this different from other voice recording?
“Voice recording” can mean several unrelated things. A portable player’s voice-memo function, a phone’s call-recording feature, and a VoIP system’s call recorder are not evidence about the TF2 command or a service named +Voicerecord.
