The Romtec Trios RX-910T6 is a vintage hardware selector that lets a legacy computer choose among three IDE hard drives. In a 2001 review, HotHardware found that changing drives required a full shutdown and restart; it reported no observed performance difference in its HD Tach test after installation. Those findings describe the reviewer’s setup at the time, not a guarantee for every system or surviving unit.
What the RX-910T6 does
The RX-910T6 was designed to select one of three IDE hard drives, allowing a computer to use separate drives—for example, as separate bootable installations. HotHardware’s 2001 review said it was compatible with Apple Macintosh and PC systems, but did not provide a current compatibility list or detailed technical specifications.

Contemporaneous coverage also describes the device as a way to choose between three separate bootable drives. The selection was not immediate: the computer had to be shut down before the selected drive changed. PCstats’ contemporary coverage provides that context.

According to Jeff Bouton’s HotHardware review, dated July 5, 2001, pressing another selector button while the computer was running did not switch the active drive. The reviewer had to shut the system down completely and restart it for the new selection to take effect. The review called this a safeguard against changing the selection while the machine was on; it is not a modern safety certification or a guarantee against data loss.
#1 Best Overall
- 【Dual-Drive Simultaneous Use & Wide Compatibility】This hard drive adapter supports connecting one IDE drive and one SATA drive at the same time. It works with 2.5"/3.5" IDE HDDs, 2.5"/3.5" SATA HDDs and SSDs, as well as optical drives like CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, and DVD-RW. The dual-head IDE connector (40-pin and 44-pin) and a SATA III port give you maximum flexibility for data migration, backup, or drive recovery.
- 【High-Speed Transfer with USB 3.0 & SATA III】Experience data transfer rates up to 6Gbps through the SATA III interface, with USB 3.0 connectivity (backward compatible with USB 2.0/1.1). Please ensure your computer has a USB-A port, as this hard drive reader uses a USB-A connection only.
- 【Stable Power Supply for Reliable Operation】The included 12V/2A power adapter is essential for stable performance—please always connect it when using this IDE to USB adapter, especially when accessing two drives simultaneously. The 4-pin power cable is designed specifically for 3.5" IDE drives (not required for SATA drives).
- 【Plug-and-Play with User-Friendly Design】No driver installation required. Supports hot-swapping for quick drive changes, and features an On/Off switch to protect your hard drives from unnecessary wear. The LED indicator clearly shows power and activity status.
- 【What's Included & Support】You'll receive the USB 3.0 to IDE+SATA adapter, a USB 3.0 data cable, a 4-pin power cable, a 12V/2A power adapter, and our 24/7 dedicated email support.
Installation and the 2001 test
The reviewer found mounting the selector in a drive bay straightforward, but connecting and routing IDE cables in a cramped case was harder. The connectors were closely spaced, so aligning cables with the pins required care. For that installation, the reviewer used rounded cables supplied by PCNut to make routing easier.
HotHardware tested the selector with three drives from different manufacturers:

All three worked without error in that test. The reviewer also reported no observed performance difference in HD Tach before and after adding the selector. These were the drives and results from one review setup; the capacities are not a specification for the selector, and the test does not establish performance or compatibility in other configurations.

HotHardware’s assessment was mixed. The selector’s basic function and the reported test results were positives, while the reviewer criticized its light plastic construction, clunky-feeling buttons, and awkward IDE connector placement. The review gave it a Heat Meter score of 7.

The review listed a price of $80 in 2001, which Jeff Bouton considered high. That is a historical price, not a current valuation. The review’s page-archive listing may show a different date; the embedded review itself is dated July 5, 2001.

The RX-910T6 is a vintage part, and the available catalog records do not establish that a particular unit is in stock, working, complete, or suitable for a specific computer. Newegg has a catalog result for the model, first listed June 30, 2025, and eBay has a product page identifying it; neither page alone confirms present inventory or condition. These records also do not establish Amazon availability.
