THE ONE PIECE is Netflix’s new animated adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, starting again at Chapter 1 in the East Blue. Netflix has announced a February 2027 premiere for a seven-episode first season, with all episodes arriving together.
What is THE ONE PIECE?
THE ONE PIECE is a new anime adaptation of Oda’s ONE PIECE manga. It retells the opening East Blue saga, beginning with Monkey D. Luffy setting out to find the One Piece treasure and gather the crew who become the Straw Hats. It is separate from Netflix’s live-action ONE PIECE series.

Netflix describes the project as a new adaptation, rather than using “reboot” as its official label. Reboot is understandable shorthand: the story begins from the manga’s starting point instead of continuing the existing TV anime.
When does it premiere, and how will the season be released?
Netflix lists a February 2027 premiere and says the seven episodes will be released together, exclusively on Netflix. No specific day in February is announced in the cited official listings, so a more precise date is not established. Netflix Media Center’s series listing and Netflix Tudum’s overview provide the announced timing and format.

How much of the manga will Season 1 adapt?
The announced first season is planned to adapt approximately the manga’s first 50 chapters, from Chapter 1 through Luffy’s encounter with Sanji, the sous chef at the Baratie restaurant. Netflix describes the season as seven episodes totaling roughly 300 minutes. These are announced scope and runtime figures, not a guarantee that every scene or chapter will be adapted page for page.
For readers who would rather begin with the source, ONE PIECE manga Volume 1 contains the opening chapters. It is the original manga volume, not a special edition tied to the anime.

Who is making the new anime?
WIT STUDIO is handling animation production. Netflix lists Masashi Koizuka as director, Hideaki Abe as assistant director, Taku Kishimoto for series composition, and Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda for character design and chief animation direction. The production committee includes Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation.
Netflix described the project in its December 17, 2023 announcement as distinct from the established Toei-produced TV anime. In that announcement, the committee said it aims to offer “a fresh yet familiar experience” by reimagining Luffy’s East Blue adventures with contemporary visual technology. The existing Toei anime began broadcasting in 1999.

The new project is therefore a fresh entry point, not a continuation of the long-running TV anime. The shared source and story do not make it the live-action adaptation or a sequel to that series.

Netflix reported in 2026 that the ONE PIECE manga had sold more than 600 million copies globally as of March 2026. That figure refers to the manga, not to viewership, sales, or audience numbers for THE ONE PIECE. Netflix’s franchise overview also describes the manga as spanning more than 100 volumes.
