Lenovo Legion 5i (2026) Review: OLED Gaming Meets a Pricing Paradox

The 11th-generation Lenovo Legion 5i pairs a sharp, fast OLED display with current Intel and Nvidia hardware, but its value depends heavily on which configuration and price you can actually buy. Lenovo announced an estimated U.S. starting price of $1,549; later 2026 reviews reported substantially different prices for their configurations. Gizmodo’s tested RTX 5070 model was listed at $3,016 through Lenovo’s webstore at the time of that review—an eye-catching figure for a laptop whose reviewer also criticized its heat, noise, trackpad, and speakers.

What the 2026 Legion 5i is—and why its price is hard to pin down

This article concerns the 15-inch, 11th-generation Legion 5i, not the previous Gen 10 model. Lenovo announced it with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 Series Laptop GPUs, Windows 11 Copilot+ PC status, and a PureSight OLED display. Lenovo’s announcement estimated a U.S. starting price of $1,549 and expected availability from April 2026; that was a launch estimate, not a current retail quote. Lenovo’s CES 2026 announcement

Later reviews reported notably different prices. These are source-specific observations from 2026, not a single settled price for every market or SKU:

Gizmodo: RTX 5070 and 1TB SSD configuration $3,016 Price the reviewer said this configuration would cost through Lenovo’s webstore; the article described the 1TB SSD as a $190 upgrade and the RTX 5070 as a $300 upgrade over its baseline
Tom’s Guide: RTX 5060, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD preconfigured model $1,899 Price reported in its 2026 review
Tom’s Guide: 512GB starting configuration $2,355 Starting configuration price listed by the review
Tom’s Guide: RTX 5070 and 1TB review configuration $2,825 Review configuration price reported in 2026

The different snapshots do not establish a market-wide pricing trend or explain every discrepancy. They do show why a buyer should check the exact GPU, memory, storage, seller, and price date before comparing listings. Gizmodo’s 11th-gen review and Tom’s Guide’s 11th-gen review describe different configurations and price observations.

What stands out in Gizmodo’s review

A high-refresh OLED built for games and everyday use

Gizmodo describes its tested unit’s 15.3-inch OLED as 2560×1600 with a 16:10 aspect ratio, refresh rates up to 165Hz, G-Sync, and Dolby Vision support. The reviewer reports around 500 nits typical brightness and up to 1,000 nits in HDR. That combination is the laptop’s clearest premium feature: the screen is spacious and sharp, while its high refresh rate is suited to fast gameplay. The brightness figures and impressions are the publication’s observations of its unit, not a guarantee that every display mode will sustain those levels in every scene.

Gaming performance is configuration- and settings-dependent

Gizmodo’s reviewer played Gears of War: E-Day and Star Wars: Galactic Racer. In the latter, the reviewer reported just under 60 frames per second at Epic settings without DLSS. That is a useful example of what one reviewer observed on the tested configuration, not a universal benchmark for every game or Legion 5i SKU. The RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 options should not be treated as interchangeable: GPU choice, resolution, graphics settings, and whether upscaling is enabled all affect the result.

Tom’s Guide tested a different Gen 11 configuration, with a Core Ultra 7 251HX and RTX 5070 12GB, and reported these results in its own test suite:

Tom’s Guide test Reported result
3DMark average across seven tests 10,394
Cyberpunk 2077, 1080p, RT Ultra 44.1 fps
Black Myth: Wukong, 1600p, Cinematic 27 fps
Forza Horizon 6, 1080p, Extreme + RT 50 fps

Those are Tom’s Guide’s measurements for its specified test model and settings. They should not be compared as if they were produced under Gizmodo’s game, configuration, or methodology.

  • Powered by Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, a 24-core CPU (8P+16E) reaching up to 5.4 GHz, built for top-tier gaming, multitasking, and creative workflows.
  • Equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7 GPU, delivering advanced ray tracing, DLSS acceleration, and excellent performance in modern AAA titles.
  • 16" WQXGA (2560×1600) IPS display with 240Hz refresh rate, 500 nits brightness, HDR 400, Dolby Vision, and 100% DCI-P3 color for vivid and fluid visuals.
  • High-speed 32GB DDR5-5600 memory and 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD ensure rapid load times and smooth multitasking across demanding applications.
  • Next-gen Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity deliver ultra-fast, stable wireless performance for gaming, streaming, and seamless device connections.

Keyboard and screen versus the surrounding hardware

Gizmodo praises the OLED panel and keyboard, but finds the trackpad less satisfying and the speakers muffled. The reviewer also describes the exterior as prone to smudges. Those usability compromises matter because a laptop in this price range has to work as more than a graphics card with a screen: the keyboard, pointing surface, audio, and finish shape daily use.

Portability, ports, heat, and battery life

For its tested unit, Gizmodo reports a 0.79-inch thickness and 4.25-pound weight. It also notes that the included 245W power brick is needed for full performance and fastest charging, so the laptop’s travel load is more than the chassis alone. Its reported connections include Thunderbolt 4 USB-C, a second USB-C port with power delivery and DisplayPort 2.1, three USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, and a headphone jack; the reviewer also notes a 5-megapixel webcam. These are details reported for the reviewed machine, so confirm the exact SKU’s specification sheet if a particular port is essential.

Gizmodo flags heat and fan noise as drawbacks, but its account does not provide standardized thermal or acoustic measurements for the Gen 11 unit. Tom’s Guide’s separate battery tests offer a more specific view of unplugged endurance for its own RTX 5070 review configuration: it lasted 7 hours 3 minutes in that publication’s web-surfing test and 1 hour 27 minutes in its PCMark 10 gaming battery test. These are lab results under Tom’s Guide’s methods, not a promise of runtime in a different workload.

Memory and storage deserve a configuration check

Gizmodo says its Gen 11 base model had 16GB of single-channel memory and 512GB of storage. The review configuration had a 1TB SSD. Memory layout and capacity can matter alongside the GPU, particularly for demanding games or multitasking, but the available Gen 11 reporting here does not establish upgrade compatibility for every SKU. Check Lenovo’s specifications for the precise model number before buying on the assumption that RAM or storage can be upgraded; do not infer a compatible memory kit from a review of another generation.

PC Gamer’s discussion of single-channel memory concerns a different, Gen 10 Legion 5 configuration. That review found its 16GB (1×16GB) setup limited performance in some memory-bandwidth-sensitive workloads, but it is not a test result for the 11th-generation laptop. Its September 2026 UK price of £1,348 and closest U.S. configuration price of $1,499 also belong to that older model, not the Gen 11 reviewed here. PC Gamer’s Gen 10 review

Is the Legion 5i worth buying at its reported prices?

The answer turns on the exact deal and your priorities, not the Legion name alone. The OLED and keyboard give the Gen 11 a distinctive appeal; an RTX 5070 configuration may also be the better fit if your games or creative workloads benefit from the extra GPU tier. But the $3,016 figure Gizmodo reported for its RTX 5070/1TB configuration makes the criticisms of heat, noise, trackpad, and speakers harder to overlook. Tom’s Guide’s $2,825 report for its own RTX 5070/1TB configuration illustrates that the two publications did not report the same price for nominally similar upgrade labels.

  • Compare like with like: Match GPU, RAM amount and layout, SSD capacity, market, seller, and date. An RTX 5060/1TB price is not a direct substitute for an RTX 5070/1TB price.
  • Match the GPU to your target: Consider the resolution and settings you actually use. The panel can run at 2560×1600 and up to 165Hz, but demanding games may require reduced settings or upscaling to approach high frame rates.
  • Account for the whole carry: The chassis is reported at 4.25 pounds, and the full-performance 245W adapter adds bulk for travel.
  • Weigh the trade-offs you will notice: The screen and keyboard are the strengths in Gizmodo’s assessment; its complaints about heat, noise, trackpad, speakers, and smudge-prone finish are relevant if the laptop will also serve as an everyday computer.
  • Check the SKU before planning upgrades: Confirm memory and storage configuration and upgrade support with Lenovo for the exact model number.

Gizmodo reviewer Kyle Barr captured the value tension with the question, “How can a laptop seem so mid-range and remain priced like a premium gaming machine?” That is a reviewer’s framing, not a market-wide finding. The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: the Gen 11 Legion 5i has a compelling OLED-led feature set, but whether it is a good buy depends on the price and specification of the particular unit on offer.
