It is not, by itself, a smart-home hub. Some Samsung TV models separately support a SmartThings Hub feature for connecting compatible smart-home devices.
What is Smart Hub?
Samsung UK describes Smart Hub as “the intelligent menu system for Samsung Smart TVs.” It is the TV’s interface for finding features and entertainment, including apps and games. Online features and access to apps require an internet connection. Availability and the exact menu depend on the TV model and region. Samsung UK’s Smart Hub overview was updated 12 September 2026.

How do you find and install apps?
- Connect the TV to the internet.
- Open Smart Hub Home and select Apps.
- Search for the app you want, open its listing, and choose Install.
This is the path in Samsung Gulf’s guide; menu labels, app catalogs, and availability may differ across models and regions. Check the on-screen menu and support page for your specific TV. Samsung Gulf’s Smart Hub instructions were updated 8 June 2026.

Account requirements vary by product generation and geography. Samsung UK says a Samsung Account provides additional Smart Hub options, including downloading apps. Samsung Canada states that registration is required to use Smart Hub apps, services, and functions on Samsung Smart TVs and Smart Monitors starting with 2023; users must also accept the Smart Hub terms and privacy notice. That Canadian rule should not be assumed to apply identically in every region.

Smart Hub vs. SmartThings Hub: what is the difference?

The terms are related, but not interchangeable: Smart Hub is not a standalone smart-home hub product, and having Smart Hub does not mean a TV has the SmartThings Hub feature.

Can a Samsung TV control smart-home devices?
Some Samsung TVs can use the SmartThings Hub feature to connect supported devices, including lights, plugs, and sensors, through Wi-Fi or cloud-to-cloud connections. Support depends on the TV and device; it is not a feature to assume is present on every Samsung TV.

Samsung Canada’s guide lists examples of 2023 TV and monitor models and notes that some require the SmartThings Dongle VG-STDB10A for Zigbee or Thread devices. The guide states that Z-Wave is not supported. The dongle is for the relevant smart-home connectivity, not for ordinary Smart Hub apps. Because the guide is model-year-specific rather than a complete current compatibility list, verify your exact model and devices before relying on a connection. What should you check before choosing a TV for Smart Hub?
- Apps: Confirm that the apps you want are available for the exact TV model and your region.
- Account and software: Check the requirements for your model year and country, including any sign-in or terms acceptance.
- Smart-home hub support: Verify whether the specific TV supports the SmartThings Hub feature; Smart Hub alone does not establish this.
- Device protocols: Match your smart-home devices to supported connection methods and confirm whether a dongle is needed.
Samsung’s model examples do not amount to a full current compatibility matrix. Check the model-specific support information and the device requirements before buying or connecting equipment.
