What Samsung Secure Wi-Fi does
Secure Wi-Fi is intended to protect data sent over Wi-Fi, particularly on public or unfamiliar networks. Samsung Knox says the feature uses a secure tunnel with AES symmetric encryption and ECC-based asymmetric encryption. Samsung’s support materials also describe encryption of internet traffic and tracking protection. These are Samsung’s descriptions, not independent test results or a guarantee against every attack.

Samsung says its Enhanced Privacy Protection option can route traffic through two separate relays so neither relay can access the user’s IP address. Its 2025 announcement of a post-quantum cryptography upgrade describes a rollout; it does not establish that the upgrade is present on every compatible Galaxy phone.

Secure Wi-Fi protects the connection path. It does not make a user completely anonymous or replace device updates, strong account security or careful handling of links and credentials.

How to turn it on and find its controls
- Open Settings and go to Security and privacy > Secure Wi-Fi, following Samsung’s US instructions. On some software versions the setting may be nested elsewhere; search Settings for “Secure Wi-Fi” if you cannot find it.
- Sign in to your Samsung account and connect to a stable Wi-Fi network to start the service.
- Review the protection plan and settings on your own phone before relying on a particular allowance or feature.
- Choose a protection mode and, if useful, review trusted Wi-Fi networks, protection activity and protected apps. Labels and available options differ by model, software version and market.
Protection modes and when to use them
Samsung UK documents three automatic-protection choices. Their scope differs: a broader mode covers public or unreliable networks, while the other options narrow protection to public Wi-Fi or DNS activity.

If a trusted network is being protected unnecessarily, the trusted-network controls may help. Per-app settings can also help identify compatibility problems, though turning protection off for an app means that app no longer uses the protected connection.

Free allowance and paid plan terms
Published terms differ across Samsung’s regional support pages and can change. The figures below describe those pages, not security-performance measurements.

Samsung requires a Samsung account. Its US guidance says a purchased plan is for one device. Check the Protection plan screen on your phone for the terms that apply to your location and software before depending on a monthly allowance or price.

Why Secure Wi-Fi may be unavailable or fail
- The setting is missing: Samsung says Secure Wi-Fi is not supported on every Galaxy phone, and availability varies by country, carrier and network. Search Settings for the feature and check the support information for your particular device.
- It will not start: Confirm that you are signed in to a Samsung account and connected to stable Wi-Fi.
- An app or site stops working: Samsung warns that some apps and websites may not permit a Secure Wi-Fi connection. Review protected-app controls to diagnose whether the issue is limited to an app.
- Wi-Fi feels slower: The Galaxy Z Fold6 manual warns that using Secure Wi-Fi may slow Wi-Fi. The impact can vary; Samsung’s documentation does not provide a general speed figure.
Samsung’s descriptions explain the intended design, but the sources cited here do not provide independent measurements of attack prevention or prove that the service blocks account theft. Treat it as one connection-protection option, not a guarantee of safety.
