What kind of game is Physint?
Kojima Productions announced Physint on January 31, 2024, describing it as a new action-espionage game. Hideo Kojima said the project would use contemporary technology and a strong cast, with an ambition to blur the boundary between games and film. Kojima Productions’ announcement called it a brand-new action-espionage game.

Kojima has since described it as a spy game with a different creative direction. In remarks from a Koji10 podcast Q&A reported by GamesRadar+ in October 2026, he said: “It’s about spies, but I want plenty of new ideas and a different kind of spy action. It’s quite different.” That points to the genre and intent, not a detailed account of its mechanics or story.

No Metal Gear connection has been announced. The comparison is understandable: both projects involve espionage, and Kojima is closely associated with the Metal Gear series. But Physint is presented as a new Kojima Productions project, and Kojima’s comments emphasize new ideas rather than a continuation of that franchise. Treat Metal Gear as creative context, not as confirmation of shared story, characters, or branding.

Who is publishing Physint now?
The project’s publishing situation has changed since its reveal. Kojima Productions’ January 2024 announcement described a collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment. The Washington Post reported on September 20, 2026 that Sony had stopped funding Physint and that Microsoft’s Xbox had become its publisher. Kojima Productions subsequently said development continues with Xbox and that its relationship with PlayStation remains strong.
The studio also urged readers to be skeptical of unsupported claims about why the arrangement changed. In the same reporting, Kojima said Sony had not given him a reason. The available statements establish the reported change in publisher and the studio’s response; they do not establish a definitive explanation for it.

What is known about development and the cast?
Kojima told The Washington Post that he had written the plot and game concept and completed storyboards. He said the studio had started 3D modeling and cast scanning, and that he was testing different game engines without having made a final choice. These are signs of work underway, but they do not indicate how close the game is to release.
PC Gamer reported on September 17, 2026 that the cast includes Bill Skarsgård, Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe, and that Yoji Shinkawa is responsible for character and mechanical design. The report does not establish that this is the complete cast.

When does Physint come out, and what platforms will it use?
No release date, launch window, or final platform list is confirmed by the available announcements and reporting. The initial Sony collaboration does not by itself establish that Physint will launch on PlayStation, while Xbox’s reported role as publisher does not prove the game will be exclusive to Xbox. Kojima’s statement at the January 2024 announcement that production would begin in earnest after Death Stranding 2 was a description of plans at that time, not a current schedule.
For now, the most accurate answer is to wait for an explicit release and platform announcement from Kojima Productions or its publisher. There is not enough confirmed information to make a reliable estimate.
