It is not one panel design or a single brightness rating: the technology and performance claim can vary by model year, series, screen size, and market. LG says its newer sets combine light-control architecture with light-boosting algorithms; some earlier generations also used panel technologies such as Micro Lens Array (MLA) or OLED EX. To understand what “brighter” means for a particular TV, check the exact model and the comparison LG uses.
What OLED evo means
OLED stands for organic light-emitting diode. Unlike a television that uses a separate backlight, an OLED display’s pixels produce their own light. OLED evo is LG’s product-family label for OLED televisions with enhancements intended, among other things, to raise brightness while retaining that self-lit-pixel basis.

The important distinction is that “OLED evo” is a branding umbrella, not a universal technical specification. It does not tell you by itself which panel construction is inside a television, how bright a particular size will be, or how much brighter it is than a different OLED. The relevant answer depends on the model year and series, the screen size, and the comparison being made.
LG describes its brightness strategy in terms of two elements: light-control architecture and light-boosting algorithms. That explains the broad approach, but LG’s public material does not disclose enough engineering detail to infer exactly how those elements work in every model. Treat the phrase as a description of LG’s enhancement system, not as a promise of a fixed brightness result across the entire range.

That distinction also helps answer the common question, “What is LG OLED evo technology?” It is a label for LG’s enhanced OLED TV family, rather than the name of one panel material or a guarantee that every screen uses the same brightness-enhancing component. A specific model’s product page is needed to connect the family label with its generation, screen size, and stated features.
How LG says OLED evo raises brightness
Brightness Booster Ultimate in 2025 models
For its 2025 OLED evo TVs, LG announced an upgraded system called Brightness Booster Ultimate. LG says it enhances light-control architecture and light-boosting algorithms. In the same announcement, the company claimed brightness “three times higher” than conventional OLED models for its latest OLED evo TVs. That is a manufacturer comparison, not an independent measurement or a specification that applies to every size and model year. The announcement does not make this multiplier interchangeable with LG’s separate G5-versus-G4 comparison. LG’s 2025 OLED evo announcement
The multiplier needs its baseline to be meaningful: “three times higher” refers to conventional OLED models, not to a particular G4 screen size. It should therefore be kept attached to the 2025 announcement and its broad comparison wording. It is not a calculation that lets a buyer predict the brightness of a particular G5 in every scene or compare it directly with a G4 using the separate 45% figure.
MLA: an optical panel example
One concrete panel-level approach used in specific generations is Micro Lens Array, or MLA. LG Display describes MLA as a layer of micrometer-sized convex lenses that helps maximize light emission from the OLED panel. The optical layer is an example of how panel construction can contribute to brightness; it should not be taken to mean that every TV carrying the OLED evo name includes MLA.
LG Display also said its 2023 META technology delivered 22% greater energy efficiency than its specified comparison panel at the same brightness. This is an efficiency comparison for that technology and baseline. It is not a statement that every OLED evo television is 22% more efficient, nor does it mean a TV is automatically 22% brighter. LG Display’s META technology release
Brightness and efficiency are related but different measures. LG Display’s 22% figure holds brightness constant in its stated comparison; it does not describe a brightness increase. Nor does the release establish a particular reduction in a household’s electricity use for every TV using the technology. Keep the specific measure—energy efficiency at the same brightness—rather than turning it into a general brightness or energy-bill promise.
OLED EX: a historical panel development
OLED EX is another part of the technology’s history. In 2021, LG Display attributed an up-to-30% brightness enhancement over conventional OLED displays to OLED EX, which it said used deuterium and personalized algorithms. That figure describes LG Display’s announced OLED EX comparison; it is historical context rather than a current, universal OLED evo specification. LG Display’s OLED EX release

These examples show why the technology names should not be treated as interchangeable. MLA describes an optical layer in specific panel generations; OLED EX is LG Display’s earlier technology announcement involving deuterium and algorithms; and Brightness Booster Ultimate is LG’s name for its 2025 brightness approach. The presence of OLED evo branding alone does not establish that all three are in a given television.
What LG’s brightness figures actually compare
Two recent LG claims are easy to confuse because both use a brightness multiplier but name different baselines. Read each claim with its scope attached:
| Claim | Models or technology covered | Comparison stated by LG | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45% brighter | 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch OLED evo G5 models | OLED evo G4 | LG says this is based on its internal testing on its US product page; it is not a claim for every G5 size or every OLED evo model. |
| Up to three times brighter | Latest OLED evo TVs in LG’s 2025 announcement | Conventional OLED models | This is a manufacturer claim with a different comparison baseline; do not treat it as a universal result or directly equate it to the G5/G4 figure. |
| 22% greater energy efficiency at the same brightness | LG Display META technology | A panel at the same brightness | This is an efficiency claim about the specified panel comparison, not a brightness multiplier for all OLED evo TVs. |
| Up to 30% brightness enhancement | LG Display OLED EX | Conventional OLED displays | This is LG Display’s historical OLED EX claim, not a specification for current OLED evo televisions. |
The first figure appears on LG’s current US OLED evo product page, which identifies the four G5 screen sizes and says the comparison is based on LG internal testing. The three-times figure comes from LG’s 2025 announcement. META and OLED EX figures come from LG Display’s respective technology releases. None of these statements is independent comparative testing. LG’s US OLED evo product page
LG’s regional product material also cautions that brightness varies by model, screen size, and market. For example, a product family or size sold in one region may not share the same stated figure as a similarly named set elsewhere. Check the regional page for the TV you can actually buy rather than transferring a number from a US page to another market. LG Canada’s OLED evo technology page
For a fair comparison, keep the model year, series, diagonal size, region, and stated baseline together. Also distinguish a brightness claim from other factors a buyer may care about, such as room lighting and reflection handling. Those considerations can affect viewing comfort, but the cited brightness multipliers do not establish how two specific models compare on reflections. Check model-specific product details and independent evaluations for those separate questions rather than inferring them from an OLED evo label.
Does “brighter” mean the picture will always look brighter?
No. A manufacturer’s brightness multiplier describes a comparison under the conditions and baseline it specifies; it does not guarantee that every scene will look that much brighter in ordinary viewing. The figures above do not establish a result for every image, setting, size, or model. A brighter peak capability and the brightness you perceive while watching a particular scene are not the same claim.
Likewise, one multiplier is not enough to rank two televisions. Before drawing a conclusion, establish whether the figures refer to the same model year, series, size, region, and measurement basis. LG’s own claims illustrate why this matters: the 45% statement names particular G5 sizes and G4 as its baseline, while the three-times statement compares the latest OLED evo models with conventional OLED models.

When reading a product page, also note whether a claim is qualified with terms such as “up to,” names a particular set of screen sizes, or describes an internal comparison. Those qualifiers are part of the claim, not fine print that can be dropped when repeating the number. If the information does not identify a comparable baseline or conditions, it cannot support a precise head-to-head conclusion on its own.
How to check a specific OLED evo TV
- Find the full model name and screen size. Do not stop at “OLED evo” or the series name. Confirm the model and diagonal size shown on the seller’s regional listing or LG’s regional product page.
- Match the region. Use the product page for the country where the TV is sold. LG notes that brightness can vary by region as well as by model and size.
- Read the baseline attached to the brightness figure. Record whether LG compares the set with a previous G-series model, conventional OLED models, or a specified panel. Those are different comparisons.
- Check which technology is actually identified for that generation. MLA, OLED EX, and Brightness Booster Ultimate describe particular technologies or generations. Do not infer that a feature belongs to a model merely because it is branded OLED evo.
- Keep the qualification with the number. If a page says a specified size is 45% brighter than G4 based on LG internal testing, preserve all of those details when comparing it. Do not restate the figure as “all OLED evo TVs are 45% brighter.”
This method is more useful than comparing headline multipliers alone: it separates the TV you are considering from the broader product-family branding and from claims made about other generations.
A practical comparison note can be as simple as: exact model and size; country or market; claimed brightness figure; comparison baseline; and any panel feature explicitly listed for that model. If you are comparing two store listings, make sure they refer to the same size and regional variant before treating their figures as a direct comparison. If a feature or test condition is not stated, leave it unconfirmed rather than filling the gap with an assumption.
OLED evo versus standard OLED
At the simplest level, both descriptions refer to OLED televisions with self-lit pixels. “OLED evo” signals LG’s enhanced OLED product family, while “standard OLED” is a broad comparison label rather than one precisely defined competing panel or model. The difference therefore has to be checked model by model: LG associates evo with brightness-oriented improvements, but it does not make one identical panel or brightness advantage apply to every evo set.
There is no single percentage that answers “how much brighter is OLED evo than OLED?” LG’s claims use distinct baselines and cover distinct products or technologies. A useful comparison names the exact LG series and size, the competing model or baseline, the market, and the source of the figure. Without those details, a multiplier risks saying more than the claim supports.

A G5-to-G4 statement is a comparison between specified G-series products and sizes; it is not a universal answer for every LG evo TV versus every other OLED TV. Similarly, LG’s three-times announcement uses conventional OLED as its comparison wording, not a named competing television that can be substituted into every shopping decision.
What to take away from the technology names
- OLED evo: LG’s family label for OLED TVs with enhancements, including brightness-focused improvements; not a fixed brightness specification.
- Brightness Booster Ultimate: LG’s name in its 2025 announcement for an approach combining improved light-control architecture and light-boosting algorithms.
- MLA: A microlens layer that LG Display says maximizes light emission; it applies to specific panel technology, not automatically to every evo TV.
- OLED EX: A historical LG Display technology associated with deuterium and algorithms, with a separate up-to-30% comparison against conventional OLED displays.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is LG OLED evo technology?
OLED evo is LG’s product-family label for OLED TVs with enhancements that include brightness-oriented improvements. It is not one panel design or a single brightness specification, so check the exact model, size, generation, and regional product page.
How is OLED evo different from standard OLED?
Both use OLED’s self-lit pixels. OLED evo identifies LG’s enhanced OLED family, while “standard OLED” is a broad comparison term rather than one specific competing model. The difference and any brightness advantage depend on the exact products being compared.
Are all OLED evo TVs equipped with MLA?
No. MLA is a specific panel-level optical approach used in particular generations. LG Display describes it as micrometer-sized convex lenses that help maximize light emission; the OLED evo label alone does not confirm that a TV has MLA.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →What does LG mean when it says the 2025 OLED evo models are up to three times brighter?
LG’s 2025 announcement compares its latest OLED evo TVs with conventional OLED models. It is a manufacturer claim, not independent testing or a universal result for every size and year. It should not be treated as interchangeable with LG’s separate G5-versus-G4 claim.
Which LG OLED evo G5 sizes does LG describe as 45% brighter than G4?
LG’s US OLED evo product page names the 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch G5 models, says the comparison is with OLED evo G4, and bases the claim on LG internal testing. The figure should not be generalized to other sizes or OLED evo models.
Does OLED EX’s up-to-30% figure describe every current OLED evo TV?
No. LG Display announced the up-to-30% brightness enhancement for OLED EX compared with conventional OLED displays in 2021. It is historical technology context, not a universal specification for current OLED evo sets.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: OLED evo is LG’s enhanced OLED TV family, not one brightness rating or panel design. LG attributes brightness gains to light-control architecture and algorithms, while MLA and OLED EX are examples tied to particular technologies and generations. To judge a specific set, match its full model and size to the regional product page and keep LG’s stated comparison baseline and qualifications attached to any brightness figure.
