Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) is an in-vehicle network for carrying multimedia, control and packet data. ISO defines it as a synchronous time-division-multiplexing network: devices coordinate transmissions in time so the network can handle time-sensitive streams such as audio and video. The exact speed and cable type depend on the implementation.
What does MOST stand for?
MOST stands for Media Oriented Systems Transport. ISO 21806-1:2020 defines it as a synchronous time-division-multiplexing network and provides general information and definitions for the technology. The standard was published in September 2020; ISO’s record says it was reviewed and confirmed in 2026, and remains current according to that record: ISO 21806-1:2020.

What does a MOST network do in a vehicle?
MOST connects vehicle devices that need to exchange multimedia and related information. It can carry audio, video, data and control information over a shared network. That means it is not just an audio connection: it is a vehicle communications network designed to move different kinds of data between participating components.

It is a design characteristic, not a guarantee that a particular vehicle feature will have a specific performance level.

- This Aux cable compatible with Honda is for USB Flash play and AUX music play. Fit for following models: Accord: 2003-2011 Civic:2006-2011 CRV:2005-2011 Odyssey:2005-2011 Pilot:2006-2011 Ridgeline:2006-2011 Element:2003-2011 S2000:2004-2009 City:2002-2011 Fit:2002-2011 Pls be noted that the USB port and AUX port can not be used at the same time. The USB port has the priority. PLS DOUBLE CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR CAR IS IN THE COMPATIBLE LIST OR NOT. IF NOT,PLS DON'T ORDER!!!
How do MOST speed and cabling vary?
MOST is not one universal cable or a single fixed-speed implementation. Microchip lists technology-level grades of 25, 50 and 150 Mbps, and physical media that include fiber-optic cable, unshielded twisted pair (UTP) and coaxial cable. Those figures and media describe the range of MOST technology; they do not mean that every vehicle uses all three speeds or all three cable types. The vehicle’s design and MOST version determine what is actually present. See Microchip’s MOST Technology overview.
What do MOST versions and ISO standards specify?
The MOST Cooperation’s specifications page lists versions 4V0, 3V1, 3V0 and 2V5 and says the specifications are according to ISO 21806-1. A listed version is not, by itself, enough to identify the hardware in a particular car; compatibility questions require the vehicle’s implementation details. The page also provides specification materials and related engineering resources: MOST Cooperation specifications.

- [FUNCTION]:Upgrade Your Factory Radio, Adds a 3.5mm AUX input to your Honda/Acura radio, letting you play music, podcasts, and audiobooks directly from your phone or tablet – no more CD-only limitations.
- [Compatible with]: Works with most 2003-2011 Honda and Acura models equipped with a CD changer port, including Accord, Civic, CR-V, Odyssey, Pilot, and Acura CSX, MDX, RDX, TSX. See full list in description.
- [SUPPORT]: It supports AUX and Charge Cable, AUX fits for Bluetooth Receiver and MP3 player with 3.5mm aux port; The charger Cable only for charge, It does NOT support music playback. (If the cellphone without a 3.5mm aux port, It'll be required a conversion cable to the 3.5mm aux port.)
- [NOTE]: It is not Compatible with Integrated Satellite (XM/Sirius) Radio, you would need to disconnect it to install this adapter. Some radios are required the security code, when the radio is removed.
- [INSTALLATION]: No wire cutting or splicing – just remove the radio, plug the adapter into the CD changer port, and secure the cable. If the port is occupied, a Y-cable (B01EUZ8SY0) may be needed.
Individual ISO parts can define a narrower technical scope than the overall network. For example, ISO 21806-8:2020 specifies the MOST150 optical physical layer, or MOST150 oPHY, at 150 Mbit/s. It covers constraints, interfaces and parameters, as well as measurement techniques. The standard is relevant to engineering components such as optical links and connectors, optical transmitters and receivers, and electrical/optical converters. ISO’s record says it was confirmed current in 2026: ISO 21806-8:2020.

What should you check when identifying MOST in a car?
- Find the vehicle-specific implementation information. Do not infer the network’s speed or medium from the MOST name alone.
- Check the version and physical layer. These affect which specifications and hardware details are relevant.
- Separate link rate from application performance. A nominal Mbps grade does not establish real-world throughput for a particular system.
- Use engineering resources for system-level work. The MOST Cooperation lists a technical book, “MOST – The Automotive Multimedia Network,” edited by Prof. Dr. Ing. Andreas Grzemba, as well as specification materials. Microchip describes MOST interface and software resources for implementers; neither resource implies universal compatibility with every vehicle.
