LSFG (Lossless Scaling Frame Generation) inserts computer-generated frames between frames a game actually renders, making motion look smoother without increasing how often the game simulates or guaranteeing more responsive controls. The unofficial LSFG-Android port uses screen capture and an overlay rather than the Linux Vulkan-layer approach; its project documentation estimates that this adds 50–80 ms of latency compared with that approach.
What LSFG frame generation changes
LSFG uses machine learning to generate intermediate images between rendered game frames. The game’s rendered FPS and the displayed FPS after interpolation are different numbers: a higher displayed rate can make motion look smoother, but it does not mean the game is updating its state or sampling input at that same rate. The LSFG-Android project’s HUD distinguishes real FPS from total FPS.

Lossless Scaling’s vendor guidance recommends a game running at 60 FPS and a 120 Hz monitor for best quality. It also says that 30 FPS with a 60 Hz display can work in some games at resolutions up to 1080p. Those are recommendations, not guarantees for every title or Android device. Lossless Scaling’s LSFG guidance was published on January 9, 2024.
How the Android version works
According to the project, its non-rooted Android port cannot use the Linux-style implicit Vulkan layer to hook another app’s swapchain. Instead, it captures the visible screen through Android MediaProjection, performs interpolation, and shows the result in a system overlay.

Compatibility: check the phone, not just Android version
The LSFG-Android README says end-to-end frame generation works on Adreno 7xx-class GPUs and newer. Its 0.1.0 release notes list Android 10 or later, an arm64 device, Vulkan 1.2 or later, and required Vulkan extensions. They also say a device without VK_EXT_robustness2 may fall back to capture-only mirror mode. These are project-maintained claims, not certification across individual phones. See the LSFG-Android project documentation and 0.1.0 release notes.
Android’s platform documentation says Vulkan is available starting with Android 7.0, but not every device running that or a newer version supports it. Support and performance can vary by GPU vendor and generation. Check the exact phone’s GPU, Vulkan driver, and required extensions rather than relying on Android version or chipset family alone. Android Developers’ Vulkan support guidance was updated October 1, 2026.

What installation involves
The project describes a sideloaded installation rather than a Google Play install. The documented setup includes these steps:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Sideload the LSFG-Android APK.
- Grant permission for the app to display over other apps.
- If needed, enable the optional touch-passthrough accessibility service.
- Provide your own Lossless.dll. The project says it does not bundle or distribute this file and requires a legitimately purchased Lossless Scaling copy.
- Select the target app, then approve the MediaProjection screen-capture prompt each time you start a session.
The project says this combination is not distributable through Google Play and that its app license bars commercial use. Review the project’s current documentation and license before installing or using it.

Latency and practical trade-offs
The project estimates that its Android capture-and-overlay path adds about 50–80 ms of latency compared with its Linux Vulkan-layer approach. This is the developer’s estimate, not an independent measurement or a comparison with every other Android setup. The extra delay matters because generated frames can improve the appearance of motion while controls still reflect the underlying rendered rate—and may feel less immediate. For fast-response games or players sensitive to input delay, that trade-off may outweigh smoother-looking movement.
Image artifacts and input feel are also worth judging in the specific game and on the specific phone; the project documentation does not establish a representative handset benchmark or independent image-quality test. Android’s guidance that proper frame pacing is essential to high-quality gameplay is general developer advice, not a test or endorsement of LSFG-Android. Android Developers’ Vulkan guidance discusses platform considerations and points developers toward Android’s Frame Pacing library.

How to decide whether it is worth trying
- Check the exact device’s GPU, Vulkan version, driver, and extension support against the project’s requirements.
- Compare the game’s actual rendered FPS with the generated display rate; do not treat them as interchangeable.
- Consider whether the display refresh rate and rendered frame rate are a suitable pairing. Lossless Scaling’s 60 FPS and 120 Hz recommendation is vendor guidance, while its 30 FPS and 60 Hz example applies only to some games at up to 1080p.
- Weigh the project’s estimated extra latency against the smoother motion you want, especially for games that depend on quick input.
- Account for sideloading, recurring screen-capture consent, overlay permissions, and the requirement to supply your own purchased Lossless Scaling DLL.
