An auto clicker automates mouse clicks or taps. Most repeat clicks at a chosen interval, while Android’s built-in Autoclick (Dwell timing) waits for a connected mouse pointer to stop moving before triggering an action. These tools can simplify repetitive input or support people with motor impairments, but their controls, compatibility, permissions, and app restrictions vary.
How does an auto clicker work?
A timed auto clicker sends repeated input while it is enabled. Depending on the product, you may be able to set an interval, choose a click type and target location or active window, specify how many times to repeat, and assign a hotkey to start or stop it. Some programs offer additional features, but there is no standard feature set shared by every auto clicker.

Timed repetition versus dwell clicking
A timed clicker performs clicks at a configured interval. Android’s built-in Autoclick (Dwell timing) works differently: after the pointer remains still for a chosen delay, Android triggers the selected action. It is not a sequence of clicks at a fixed rate.

To use it, connect a mouse to the Android device by USB or Bluetooth, then find Accessibility → Cursor & touchpad accessibility → Autoclick (Dwell timing). Labels or steps may vary by Android version; Google notes that some steps work only on Android 11.0 and up.

- Open Settings → Accessibility → Cursor & touchpad accessibility → Autoclick (Dwell timing) and enable the feature.
- Adjust the dwell delay and other available settings, such as the click area or whether minor pointer movement is ignored.
- Move the pointer to the target and leave it still until Android performs the selected action.
Google documents actions including left-click, touch-and-hold, right-click, double-click, drag, and scroll. You do not need to buy a mouse if you already have a compatible one; the USB or Bluetooth mouse requirement applies to this Android dwell feature, not to every kind of auto clicker.

Why do people use auto clickers?
- Repeated tasks: A clicker can automate recurring clicks or selections. This is a common product use, not a guarantee of a particular productivity gain.
- Accessibility: Dwell clicking can let someone trigger a pointer action without pressing a mouse button. Google says Android’s feature may help users with motor impairments. The U.S. Access Board notes that a person with a dexterity disability may find it impossible to move or hold a pointing device accurately enough to activate a desired feature. - Software testing: Automated interface testing is related to click automation, but not every test automation tool is an auto clicker. Microsoft’s accessibility and automation documentation includes software test engineers among its intended audiences.
- Gaming: Some tools are marketed for games, but a game’s rules may restrict automated input. Check the terms for the particular game before using one.
What should you check before choosing or enabling one?
There is no universal compatibility list or setup path. Google documents a built-in Android dwell feature; Windows has accessibility and automation frameworks, while third-party clickers set their own system requirements. For one current vendor example, AutoClicker states support for Windows 10/11, macOS 14+, and Android 10+, and says it does not currently support Linux. These are that vendor’s stated requirements, not general platform rules. AutoClicker requirements
- Platform and version: Confirm support for your operating system and version rather than assuming a tool works everywhere.
- How it triggers: Decide whether you need timed repetition or a dwell action that activates after the pointer stops.
- Controls: Check click types, interval settings, repeat limits, hotkeys, and how to pause or stop the tool.
- Target behavior: Establish whether it acts on a chosen location, the active window, or interface elements. If focus changes, a click intended for one screen or window may land on an unintended control. Verify the target and pause before switching tasks.
- Permissions and trust: Accessibility tools may need access to interface elements or protected system processes. Microsoft notes that assistive-technology applications typically need such access and may require special privileges. Prefer an operating-system feature or a clearly identified publisher, and check why the software requests each permission.

Are there alternatives to an auto clicker?
For controls that can be identified by text, keyboard access is an important alternative to pointer input. The U.S. Access Board’s guide explains that software controls should have keyboard access under software accessibility requirements.
