AMD’s 2026 launch configuration combines 72 Instinct MI455X GPUs, 18 sixth-generation EPYC “Venice” CPUs, Pensando networking and ROCm software in one coordinated rack. Its design connects compute inside the rack and supports networking between systems; the published counts and performance figures describe AMD’s stated configuration, not every possible customer deployment.
What AMD Helios is designed to do
AMD describes Helios as infrastructure for frontier AI, large-scale inference and foundation-model training. Rather than treating each accelerator as a separate product, the platform brings GPUs, CPUs, networking, rack-level power and cooling, and software together as a system. AMD’s Helios product page and its July 2026 launch announcement describe the architecture and its stated configuration.

- Instinct MI455X GPUs: the accelerators at the center of the rack’s AI compute capacity.
- EPYC Venice CPUs: server processors within the rack platform.
- Pensando networking: supports data movement within and between systems.
- ROCm software: part of the platform’s software stack.
Those roles describe the general purpose of the components; AMD’s cited launch material does not establish a detailed workload assignment for each component or a precise CPU-to-GPU topology.

Helios is designed around both scale-up connections among accelerators inside the rack and scale-out networking between systems. AMD names Open Rack Wide (ORW), Ultra Accelerator Link (UALink) and the Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC) among the open standards associated with the platform.

Scale-up GPU connections
AMD describes four scale-up cartridges using UALink over Ethernet (UALoE) to connect up to 72 GPUs. Scale-up is the high-bandwidth fabric for communication among accelerators within the platform; it is distinct from scale-out networking used to connect systems. The product page publishes separate bandwidth figures for those two scopes.
Rack power and cooling
The design includes a vertical busbar and centralized power shelf. For cooling, AMD describes a manifold with quick-disconnect connections distributing liquid coolant to compute and switch trays. These details indicate rack-level power and liquid-cooling design, but the cited product information does not give a complete facility power budget, detailed rack dimensions or a deployment guide.
What “open rack” means here
In October 2025, AMD said Helios was aligned with the Open Rack Wide specification introduced by Meta and contributed to the Open Compute Project. That establishes an open-rack design alignment, not that every implementation detail is standardized or that components are interchangeable across vendors. See AMD’s October 2025 announcement.

- Space Saving: Maximum depth: 14.8". Use the wall mount network cabinet to maximize available space for retail locations, classrooms, back offices, network cabinets, and other locations where space is limited.
- Fast Heat Dissipation: The server cabinet is designed with vents to optimize airflow and avoid critical IT equipment overheating. Heat sink holes in the top, bottom, and rear panels are more conducive to heat dissipation.
- Sturdy Construction: Robust welded frame construction for durability and long service life. With 100 lbs wall-mounted load capacity and 200 lbs ground-mounted load capacity, you can place multiple devices in the server rack cabinet as needed.
- High Security: The locked glass door ensures the security of data and equipment. Wall mount rack enclosure server cabinet is ideal for use in public places such as offices, effectively protecting the security of your devices.
- Hassle-free Installation: Fully adjustable square-hole mounting rails of the wall mount server cabinet facilitate device installation. Wiring holes on the top, bottom, and rear panels provide you with easy cable routing.
What “Venice” means
Venice is the code name AMD used for its sixth-generation EPYC server processor family, identified in AMD’s 2026 materials as EPYC 9006. AMD says the CPUs use Zen 6 and TSMC 2 nm process technology. The family-level specifications AMD publishes include:
- Up to 256 cores and 512 threads per socket.
- Up to 16 DDR5 memory channels.
- JEDEC-standard MRDIMM support up to 12,800 MT/s.
- PCIe 6 connectivity.
These are maximum or family-level specifications, not a guarantee that every processor SKU or Helios rack configuration includes them all. AMD’s explanation is in its EPYC 9006 article.
AMD’s published Helios configuration and figures
AMD’s 2026 launch announcement specifies a configuration with 72 MI455X GPUs and 18 EPYC Venice CPUs. That is the count for the configuration AMD announced; it does not by itself establish how CPUs are paired with GPUs, the socket topology, or the bill of materials for every customer system.

- Wide Application: The server rack wall mount maximizes the use of available space, suitable for retail venues, classrooms, offices, and other places where space is limited.
AMD’s product page lists the following rack-level and GPU-level specifications. They are vendor-published figures, not independently verified test results:
| Figure | Scope stated by AMD |
|---|---|
| 72 MI455X GPUs | GPU count in the rack configuration |
| 31 TB HBM4 | Rack capacity |
| 23.3 TB/s | Memory bandwidth per GPU |
| 260 TB/s | Aggregate scale-up bandwidth |
| 43 TB/s | Scale-out bandwidth |
| 2.9 EF FP4; 1.4 EF FP8 | AMD-listed rack compute figures at the stated numerical formats |
Read each number with its scope: per-GPU bandwidth is not a rack aggregate, and scale-up and scale-out refer to different parts of the system. AMD’s product page is the source for these specifications; its public summary does not provide a full implementation bill of materials or independent replication of the figures.

AMD’s July 2026 launch announcement says Helios offers “up to 30% more tokens per dollar than the leading competitive solution.” This is AMD’s comparison claim, not an independent finding or a universal result. The “up to” qualification matters: cost per token depends on the workload, software, systems compared and benchmark assumptions. Consult the footnote attached to AMD’s claim in the launch announcement before applying it to a purchasing or deployment decision.

What the public specifications do not establish
The cited AMD pages explain Helios at an architecture level and give selected configuration and performance figures. They do not establish a full bill of materials, detailed rack dimensions, facility power requirements, complete CPU/GPU topology, or independently replicated benchmark results. Those details matter for facility planning and for comparing actual deployments.
A meaningful comparison with another rack platform needs equivalent evidence for the same workload and system generation: accelerator type and count, memory capacity and bandwidth, scale-up topology, scale-out networking, rack power and cooling, software support, serviceability, standards alignment, availability and customer deployment status, and cost under disclosed benchmark conditions. A vendor’s headline comparison alone cannot settle those questions.
