Those depend on the provider’s announcements, your signed contract, and any transition notices. In the clearest current example, SoundHound completed its acquisition of LivePerson on September 4, 2026, and said it would integrate LivePerson’s platform into its OASYS system. The public announcements do not specify when or how each customer’s endpoints, pricing, or data arrangements will change.
What changes—and what does not—when a voice AI startup is acquired?
An acquisition changes who owns the company. The new owner may combine products, cross-sell services, reorganize teams, or eventually migrate customers. None of those possibilities, by themselves, amend an individual customer’s API access, price, service-level agreement (SLA), or data-processing terms.

For a customer, the practical dividing line is between the deal’s public strategy and the terms that govern the account. Treat statements about integration or future benefits as plans unless the provider gives you a specific timeline and written terms covering your product and contract.

SoundHound announced that it completed its acquisition of LivePerson on September 4, 2026. The SEC filing records the mergers and says LivePerson continued as SoundHound’s indirect wholly owned subsidiary (SEC filing).

SoundHound said LivePerson’s platform would be integrated into OASYS, its Orchestrated Agent System (completion announcement). That describes the integration direction; it does not establish that every customer’s product, endpoint, or contract has already moved.
The April 2026 deal announcement described combining SoundHound’s voice and agentic AI with LivePerson’s digital messaging platform, along with opportunities to cross-sell each company’s offerings. SoundHound cited one billion customer messages per month for LivePerson and described a potential combined data foundation of tens of billions of customer interactions annually (deal announcement). These are company-reported scale figures and strategic expectations, not proof that customer records may be pooled or used for any particular purpose. The announcement also discussed projected revenue opportunities; those were expectations, not realized results.
The reviewed public filings and announcements do not specify a customer-by-customer migration date, endpoint or SDK compatibility, post-close pricing or billing units, SLA or support changes, data retention and deletion terms, or model-training permissions. Do not treat the acquisition as a blanket promise of continuity—or as evidence that a change has already occurred.

Will my API still work, and will I need to migrate?
Only a provider’s product notices and your account-specific transition terms can answer that. An acquisition announcement is not an API compatibility notice. Ask the provider to confirm in writing which interfaces remain supported, the dates involved, and what happens to your current integration.
- Which API endpoints, SDK versions, and webhook schemas remain supported, and until what date?
- Will authentication, rate limits, concurrency limits, telephony routing, model or voice choices, or available data fields change?
- Is there a migration guide, compatibility layer, sandbox, dual-run period, and named technical contact?
- Will you need to recreate agents, prompts, integrations, or configurations in a different product? What can be transferred automatically?
Watch version notices even when ownership is unchanged. Retell’s changelog, for example, records a January 2024 notice that an existing API would be phased out, with a replacement API and changes that included custom-LLM integration and pricing (Retell changelog). That is an example of API change, not evidence about SoundHound or LivePerson.
Will my price go up?
Do not infer a price change—or a price freeze—from the deal. Check the order form and contract for renewal dates, adjustment rights, notice periods, minimum commitments, credits, billing units, and termination options. Ask whether existing rates apply through the current term and what rates or units would apply at renewal.

For voice AI, a headline per-minute rate may not capture the full bill. Ask whether usage counts silence or hold time, transfers, failed calls, recordings, transcription, language-model processing, text-to-speech, and telephony as separate line items. Confirm how each is measured and where usage records can be audited.

These are Retell’s published rates, not SoundHound or LivePerson prices. Retell’s terms say service plans are posted on its pricing page and billing is monthly (Retell terms), which likewise says nothing about another provider’s contract.
Usage-based costs can depend on several components. In a Stripe case study, Retell president Todd Li said the company needed close usage tracking because each interaction could use GPU power and LLM tokens (Stripe’s Retell case study). That is a vendor executive’s description of Retell’s billing needs, not a universal measure of voice AI costs.

What happens to call recordings, transcripts, and other data?
Voice services can process recordings, transcripts, summaries, call metadata, and other user content. A change of ownership alone does not tell you whether those records will be retained longer, become accessible to a new affiliate, be moved to another system, or be used for analytics or model improvement. Nor does it establish whether you can export or delete them on the same terms as before.
Review the agreement, privacy notice, data-processing terms, and subprocessor list that apply to your account. Then ask the provider for written answers on:
- What data is collected, where it is stored, who can access it, and how long each category is retained.
- Whether recordings, transcripts, prompts, or customer content are used for analytics, product development, or AI/ML training—and whether that use can be opted out of.
- How to export records and configurations, request deletion, and verify that deletion has taken effect, including in backups or downstream systems.
- Whether subprocessors or data locations will change and what notice or approval rights apply.
Retell illustrates why policies must be checked provider by provider. Its terms page, marked “Last Updated: June 1, 2026,” says that unless a user opts out of recording, Retell may record calls and process communications and user content for analytics, development, and training and improvement of included AI/ML models after de-identification and aggregation (Retell terms). This is Retell’s stated policy, not SoundHound’s or LivePerson’s.

Similarly, Retell’s changelog describes a PII-redaction feature for names, addresses, dates of birth, passwords, and PINs, with a stated $0.01-per-minute add-on price in that notice (Retell changelog). It is a product-specific feature and dated price, not an effect of an acquisition.
What should customers check in their contract and notices?
Use the signed agreement and official account communications to determine what applies to your organization. A general checklist:
- Product and API: supported endpoints and versions, deprecation notice, migration assistance, rate and concurrency limits, and compatibility commitments.
- Commercial terms: renewal and price-adjustment clauses, billing units, minimums, credits, notice requirements, and termination rights.
- Service and support: uptime commitments, incident escalation, support contacts, and whether the named service or SLA is changing.
- Data governance: ownership and permitted use, access, retention, export, deletion, subprocessors, analytics, and model-training permissions.
- Telephony and integrations: number portability, routing, connected systems, and responsibility for transition work.
- Exit and transition: notice periods, export formats, transition support, and the time available to move to another provider.
Ask for answers that identify your specific products and contract, not only a general assurance that the platforms will be integrated. Save the notice and any written response with your account records.

Past deals demonstrate possibilities, not rules for a new owner’s customer commitments. SoundHound’s August 2024 announcement about acquiring Amelia described expansion into additional enterprise industries and employee retention awards (SoundHound announcement). That illustrates product expansion and staffing incentives, but does not determine what happens to LivePerson customers.
A different kind of precedent is Wit.ai. TIME reported in January 2015 that, after Facebook acquired the company, Wit.ai said its platform would remain free and open; the report said the deal price was undisclosed (TIME’s report). That explicit, dated, company-specific statement shows continuity can be announced, but it is not a promise for today’s voice AI acquisitions.
