Your save data and your right to play a PlayStation Plus catalog game are separate. When a game leaves the catalog, PlayStation says access to the game ends; it does not say how long the associated cloud save is kept. Back up or verify your progress before the removal date, and remember that a save file does not give you a license to play.
What happens to the game when it leaves the catalog?
PlayStation warns that some catalog games have removal dates. Once a game leaves, access to that game and its associated DLC or add-ons ends. You can keep a copy of your save, but the save does not restore access to the game.

PlayStation’s catalog FAQ explains that availability can change and that access ends when a title leaves. Whether you can resume later depends on having access to a compatible copy of the game; a saved-data file by itself is not that copy.

Where PlayStation Plus saves are stored
The save location depends on whether you downloaded or streamed the game. PlayStation Support says, “If you’re playing a downloaded PlayStation Plus game, the saved data is saved to the console storage of your PS5® console or PS4™ console.” For streamed games, it says, “If you’re streaming a PlayStation Plus game, the saved data is stored on PlayStation.”

Downloaded and streamed saves are not automatically transferred between those game types. PlayStation documents copying and downloading saves, but you need to use the applicable save-management flow.
How to back up or retrieve your save
If you downloaded the game
- Before the catalog end date, confirm the save is present on the console where you played.
- Use PlayStation Plus online storage to upload or sync the saved data. On PS5, PlayStation’s guidance is under PS Plus cloud storage for PS5 consoles; select the saved-data management option relevant to your console and game.
- When you need the save on another console, use online storage to download it there. Check the selected game and save date before overwriting any local data.
If you streamed the game
- Open the saved-data management flow for streamed games while the title is still available.
- Copy the save from game-streaming storage to online storage.
- Retrieve it from online storage when you have access to a compatible downloadable version or another supported play mode.
PlayStation’s step-by-step instructions for both downloaded and streamed saves are on its Save and transfer PlayStation Plus game progress page. The available menus can differ by console and play mode, so follow the instructions for the system you are using.

Does PlayStation keep the cloud save after the game leaves?
PlayStation’s reviewed support pages do not state whether, or for how long, a cloud save for an individual removed catalog game is retained. That means it would be inaccurate to promise that the save remains indefinitely or to claim that it is deleted as soon as the game leaves. The practical step is to copy or verify the save before the title’s removal date rather than relying on an unstated retention period.

Cloud storage limits are not retention rules
PlayStation Support currently lists 100 GB of saved-data cloud storage for PS5 and 100 GB for PS4, and a limit of 1,000 PS4 saved-data files. These figures describe storage capacity and file count, not how long an individual save remains available after its game leaves the catalog. What to check before a title leaves
- Confirm whether you played the downloaded or streamed version; the save’s starting location differs.
- Verify that the latest save exists, then upload or copy it to online storage using the matching save-management flow.
- Do not treat the saved data as proof that you can still launch the game. Game access and save storage are separate.
- If you later obtain the game elsewhere, do not assume a save will work across different editions or platforms; compatibility depends on the game and is not guaranteed by having a save file.
