Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen Xbox Game Pass ends, access to games from its library ends when your subscription expires or is canceled—or when a game leaves the catalog. That does not, by itself, establish that your save data is deleted. Xbox’s cited pages explain the access rule but do not specify what happens to saves after a subscription ends, so check current Xbox support guidance for your game and platform if continuing a save matters.
What happens to Game Pass games when the subscription ends?
Xbox says subscribers can access games in the Game Pass library until the subscription is canceled or expires, or the game leaves the library. Once you no longer have access through the subscription, you need another eligible way to play that title.

The catalog changes, and availability can vary by region, plan and platform. Check the current Game Pass game library for your circumstances rather than assuming a title will remain included.

The Xbox pages cited here do not say whether saves remain accessible after a subscription expires, nor do they establish that save data is deleted. Losing subscription access and losing save data are separate questions; the available information does not support a guarantee either way.

Can you keep playing by buying the game?
Possibly. Xbox says select cloud-playable games that are not included with Game Pass can be streamed when you own or buy them. This option applies only where the title is offered for purchase and meets the relevant platform and cloud-play conditions; it does not mean every Game Pass game is sold separately or can be streamed after purchase.

For cloud play, Xbox lists an eligible subscription, a supported game, a supported device and a supported region among the requirements. Xbox also identifies a separate exception for select free-to-play games. Check the Xbox Cloud Gaming page for current eligibility and availability.

Which access route applies to your game?
| Route | What determines access | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Game Pass library | Access lasts until the subscription is canceled or expires, or the title leaves the library. | Whether the game is currently included for your region, plan and platform in the Game Pass library. |
| Ownership or purchase | Xbox describes streaming for select cloud-playable games that you own or buy outside Game Pass; this is not a guarantee that every title is purchasable or cloud-playable. | Whether the game is offered for purchase and whether your device and region meet the current cloud-play requirements on the Xbox Cloud Gaming page. |
Before your subscription ends
- Check the end date displayed in your account. Canceling recurring billing and the date access ends are not necessarily the same event; the cited Xbox pages do not specify timing for every account cancellation flow.
- Confirm whether the title is still in the library for your plan, platform and region.
- If you plan to buy the game, verify that it is offered for purchase and that the version matches your platform.
- If preserving your progress is essential, check current support guidance for the specific game and platform; save retention after expiry is not established by the cited Xbox pages.
