Quest progress in ARC Raiders can be lost if you fail to extract. Embark says the progress bars in the quest tracker show which progress may be lost, so check the active objective rather than assuming every step is treated the same. A successful extraction is the safer way to secure progress marked at risk.
What happens to quest progress if you die?
If you die or otherwise fail to extract, you may lose the progress the active quest tracker flags as at risk. Embark’s Patch Notes 1.22.0, dated March 31, 2026, say: “Progress bars now indicate what progress may be lost if you fail to extract.” The word “may” matters: the notes do not establish that every objective step is erased whenever a raid ends in failure.

Use the bar and objective text for the quest you are doing. If the tracker marks progress as vulnerable, treat it as unbanked until you extract. The official notes do not provide a complete list of which individual quest steps persist through death, so one quest’s behavior should not be assumed to apply to another.
Does quest progress count only after you extract?
Not necessarily for every step. Embark’s patch notes identify progress that may be lost on failed extraction, but do not say all objectives are credited only after extraction. The practical distinction is between progress the tracker flags as at risk and other steps the game has already credited.

Also distinguish objective progress from an item or material you are carrying in the raid. The cited official notes do not provide a complete item-by-item persistence rule. Do not assume a quest item survives death—or that it is lost—unless the current objective text or an official update confirms what applies.
What should you do before risking a raid?
- Open the active quest tracker. Read the objective text and inspect its progress bar before going after a risky step.
- Identify progress marked at risk. Assume that portion may be lost if you fail to extract.
- Extract successfully when that progress matters. Avoid taking unnecessary risks after completing a vulnerable objective.
- Check the specific quest if its behavior is unclear. The official sources do not establish a universal persistence table for objectives or carried quest items.
Multi-objective tracking has also had a documented bug: Embark’s November Update 1.2.0, last updated November 13, 2025, fixed an issue that could prevent quests involving multiple objectives or item collections within one round from completing. That is evidence of a past tracking fix, not a general rule that multi-objective quests always behave differently.

Does starting an Expedition reset your quests?
An Expedition is separate from dying during an ordinary raid. Under Embark’s Live Update 1.45.0, dated September 8, 2026, quests do not reset by default when you start an Expedition. You can choose whether to reset them when departing. The option concerns your Expedition departure; it is not triggered by raid death.

Embark describes ARC Raiders as a multiplayer extraction adventure, but its published notes do not spell out every quest’s persistence behavior. For a specific objective, the current in-game tracker is the useful guide.
