Choose Rainbow Six Siege for competitive, tactical matches against other players; choose Rainbow Six Extraction for cooperative missions against alien enemies. The key difference is not simply multiplayer versus solo: it is whether you want to outthink another team or work with friends to survive a PvE mission.

Choose Siege if you want competitive tactical matches
Expect preparation, information, and coordinated execution
Siege’s central attack-versus-defense loop rewards learning maps and operator roles. Attackers scout and breach; defenders use preparation time to reinforce and shape the site. Observation tools and information-sharing matter because a team’s decisions depend on what it knows about the objective and opposing players. Ubisoft’s game guide emphasizes communication as part of that match flow.
Account for its broader set of modes
Do not treat 5v5 as the only way to play Siege: Ubisoft also describes the permanent 6v6 Dual Front mode. If you want a game with an explicitly described, ongoing seasonal roadmap, Siege has the clearer evidence here. Ubisoft’s roadmap, updated September 8, 2026, lists Year 11 Season 3, Operation Split Fire, as the latest release at that time and cautions that roadmap plans can change. Choose Extraction if you want cooperative PvE
Play against the mission, not another team
Extraction replaces Siege’s competitive attack-versus-defense contest with missions against an alien threat. You can go solo or play with up to two other people, so it fits a smaller co-op group as well as a player who prefers tackling objectives alone. Ubisoft lists the game for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
Check the trial and Buddy Pass terms
Ubisoft’s product page describes a trial of up to two hours and a Buddy Pass for two friends for 14 days. Those are the terms described on that page, not a guarantee that every offer remains available in every region or storefront; verify them before planning around a free session.

Which one fits your play style?
- Pick Siege if you want PvP pressure, tactical roles, map knowledge, and the challenge of adapting to human opponents.
- Pick Extraction if you want a cooperative objective-driven experience against AI-controlled alien enemies, with solo play as an option.
- Consider your group. Extraction is built for solo or up to three players; Siege’s signature attack-versus-defense format is a team match, though its other modes differ.
- Consider how much change you want. Ubisoft’s September 2026 roadmap gives a dated seasonal update for Siege. The available product information does not establish a comparable current update cadence for Extraction, which is not evidence that the game is unavailable or unsupported.
Both games reward coordination. A headset with a microphone may make teammate communication easier, but neither requires a particular accessory; Ubisoft’s Siege guide stresses communication, and its Extraction page describes teamwork as important.
Availability and current status
Extraction’s Ubisoft product page lists PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, and gives its release date as January 20, 2022. Siege’s roadmap provides the clearest dated picture of its ongoing seasonal changes, but roadmap targets can shift. Ubisoft’s service-status page reported no issues on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on October 5, 2026; that is a dated snapshot, not a promise about service status today. Check Siege service status before troubleshooting a connection problem.
