In a normal ARC Raiders raid, final elimination costs you the gear and loot you are carrying outside your Safe Pocket. Items found during a raid are secured by successful extraction. The official guidance reviewed does not say ordinary death resets persistent quest progress, but particular objectives or event rewards may require extraction. An Expedition is different: it can reset character progression, with a quest-reset opt-out announced for the fifth Expedition.
What you lose when you are eliminated
On final elimination, assume that carried weapons, equipment, consumables, and raid loot are lost unless they are in a Safe Pocket slot. The Epic Games Store beginner guide identifies Safe Pocket contents as the exception. It also notes that the Free Loadout has no Safe Pockets, so it does not offer that protection.

Being downed is not necessarily the same as being eliminated. The guide says a downed Raider may be able to crawl into an extraction point and return to Speranza with loot, provided opponents have not fully incapacitated them. Once elimination is final, do not count on recovering the exposed items.

How extraction affects items you found
Loot collected topside is not secured just because you picked it up: you need to make it out alive. The Epic guide describes Raider Hatches as requiring a key. Regular exits—including Airshafts, Subway Tunnels, and Cargo Elevators—can be noisy and may draw ARC or other players.

Choose when to leave
- Use a Safe Pocket for the most valuable eligible item you want to protect from elimination.
- Consider a Free Loadout for a lower-commitment run, but account for its lack of Safe Pockets and fewer inventory slots.
- Weigh another loot stop against the value already in your pack; leaving secures collected items, while staying exposes them to the risk of the raid.
- Check whether a hatch key is available before planning to use a Raider Hatch.
Does dying reset quest progress?
The available official guide explains the loss of carried equipment and loot, but does not say that ordinary death wipes persistent quest progress. The official Live Update 1.33.0 notes, last updated June 16, 2026, mention a fix for rare quest objectives activating out of order; they do not establish a universal rule for whether every pickup, visit, kill, or other objective survives death. Check the exact objective text in-game rather than assuming that all quest progress is either lost or retained.
Quest items and event credit can have special rules
For event credit, follow the event’s stated condition. In the June 16, 2026 update, Embark said relic Merit is claimed only when a player successfully extracts with the relic; Merits earned through XP are converted automatically. That rule is specific to that event and should not be treated as the rule for every quest item or objective.

How an Expedition differs from dying in a raid
An Expedition is a separate, voluntary progression reset—not the consequence of ordinary raid death. In Embark’s October 9, 2025 Expedition Project overview, the listed losses included character levels, skills, inventory, workshop, and crafting capabilities; cosmetics, awards, achievements, and rankings were described as retained. Design director Virgil wrote: “Players who have less time to dedicate to the game don’t have their progress reset outside of their control.” That statement concerns the voluntary Expedition design, not the survival of every objective after a raid death.

The same announcement said Expeditions would pause until early 2027 for larger changes. Those are dated Expedition terms, not a new rule for normal raids; review the current in-game departure screen and reset choices before leaving.
