When your PlayStation Plus membership expires, you lose access to the monthly games you claimed through the subscription. They are subscription benefits, not permanent purchases. If you later buy a new membership on the same account, PlayStation says access to previously downloaded monthly games returns.
Does canceling PS Plus immediately lock your monthly games?
No. Turning off auto-renewal or canceling a subscription does not end benefits straight away. PlayStation says benefits continue until the end of the paid subscription period; access to monthly games ends when that period expires. The UK cancellation guide describes the loss of benefits at the point the subscription ends.

What happens to games you claimed?
Monthly games you selected or added to your library while they were available remain tied to an active PS Plus entitlement. After membership ends, you cannot play them through that entitlement. A game may still appear in your library; its listing is not proof that you can launch it without an active membership.
PlayStation’s cancellation guidance also distinguishes monthly games from other benefits: redeemed PS Plus packs and avatars, and games purchased at a PS Plus discount, remain yours. Those are not the same as monthly games claimed through the subscription.

Can you play them again if you resubscribe?
Yes, according to PlayStation’s membership guide: after buying a new membership, you regain access to content previously downloaded through PS Plus. The account needs to be the one that claimed the games. PlayStation’s Sweden membership guide states this rejoining rule. It does not establish broader account-sharing exceptions.
How do monthly games differ from the game catalogs?
Monthly games and catalog games are separate PS Plus benefits, so do not assume they follow the same access rules. PlayStation’s U.S. plan comparison lists monthly games with Essential, Extra, and Premium; Game Catalog access with Extra and Premium; and Classics Catalog access with Premium. The rule described here concerns games claimed as monthly games, not the availability of a particular catalog title.

How to check when your access ends
Check your subscription details and next payment date in Account Management or in the subscription settings on your console. PlayStation’s U.S. instructions for checking PS Plus status explain where to find those details. Your displayed subscription end date tells you when benefits tied to the paid period are due to stop.
