When your PS Plus membership ends, you lose access to games you claimed or downloaded through the subscription. Games you bought outright—including purchases made at a Plus discount—remain yours. If you cancel renewal, benefits usually continue until the end of the period you already paid for; they stop when that period ends.
What happens to each kind of PS Plus game?

So an installed game icon does not prove you own the game: installation and entitlement are different. A subscription game may stay on the console, but you cannot play it while its required membership is inactive. If you later renew or buy the same game, access may be restored, subject to the game still being available.

Does access stop as soon as you cancel?
No. Canceling PS Plus turns off the next renewal; it does not normally end the benefits you have already paid for. PlayStation Support says benefits continue until the end of the current paid period, and access ends after the subscription ends. See Sony’s cancellation guidance for the account-specific details.

What happens to online play and saved data?
Online multiplayer
Online multiplayer is a Plus benefit that ends with the membership. Most paid PS4 and PS5 games require Plus for online multiplayer, but some do not; check the individual game’s listing or requirements. PlayStation Plus support

Local and cloud saves
For downloaded games, save data is stored on your console. That local save is distinct from cloud storage, which is a PS Plus benefit. For streamed games, PlayStation stores the save data. Sony’s support pages do not specify how long cloud saves are retained after a membership expires or whether a lapsed member can download them, so do not assume they are deleted immediately—or that they remain available for a fixed period. Can you still use add-ons bought for a subscription game?
It depends on the add-on and whether you can still access the game. Sony’s UK usage terms say certain separately purchased add-ons, virtual currency, or similar consumables for a Plus game may be unusable after membership lapses or the game leaves the service, unless access is restored or you purchase the same game. What to check before your membership ends
- Identify which games you own and which you only access through Monthly Games or the Extra/Premium catalog.
- For a subscription game you want to keep playing, check whether buying it outright is available in your region and whether your saved progress will carry over.
- Check the catalog listing for removal dates; a title can leave before your membership expires. PlayStation Plus games catalog

Catalogs, benefits, online requirements, and availability can vary by country, tier, platform, and game. Check the PlayStation account and the specific game listing for your region.
