Claimed PlayStation Plus Monthly Games stay associated with your account, but you can’t play them while your membership is inactive. Resubscribe and access to those games returns. Canceling auto-renewal does not end access immediately: benefits continue through the paid subscription period.
What happens to Monthly Games you claimed?
A Monthly Game you claimed through PlayStation Plus is a subscription benefit, not a permanent purchase. Sony says Monthly Games are playable while you have an active membership; previously downloaded games become unavailable when the subscription ends. Does canceling PlayStation Plus end access right away?
No. Turning off auto-renewal stops the next renewal, but your benefits continue until the end of the subscription period you already paid for. You lose access when that period expires, not simply when you cancel renewal.

How Monthly Games differ from the Game Catalog
Monthly Games and catalog downloads are different entitlements. Monthly Games are claimed monthly selections. The Extra plan includes access to the Game Catalog, while Premium includes the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog. Catalog access depends both on having the eligible active plan and on the title still being offered.

If a catalog game leaves PlayStation Plus, downloading it earlier does not preserve access. Resubscribing later does not guarantee access to a catalog title that has since left. Sony’s PlayStation Plus plans and benefits page describes the tier benefits; check the current catalog listing and any stated end date for a specific game.
What happens to purchases, add-ons, and other claimed items?
- Games bought outright, including at a member discount: These are purchases rather than subscription-only access, so Sony says you keep them after canceling.
- Redeemed packs and avatars: Sony says redeemed items are kept.
- DLC or add-ons bought for a catalog game: Owning the add-on does not provide access to the underlying game. If your membership expires or that game leaves the catalog, the add-on can become inaccessible with it. Access can return if you resubscribe with the required benefit or purchase the game.
These distinctions are reflected in Sony’s subscription cancellation guidance.

Check why a PlayStation Plus game stopped working
- Identify how you got it. Was it claimed as a Monthly Game, downloaded from a catalog, or purchased (even at a discount)?
- Check your membership status. Monthly Games need an active membership. Catalog games need an active plan that includes the relevant catalog.
- For a catalog game, check whether it is still offered. If it has left the service, the old download does not keep it playable through the catalog.
- Check the related entitlement. A purchased add-on for a catalog game may not work while you lack access to the base game.
- If it is a claimed Monthly Game, resubscribe to restore access. Sony says previously claimed Monthly Games become accessible again when membership resumes.
Can a membership voucher restore access?
A PlayStation Plus membership voucher can provide membership time, according to Sony’s US voucher redemption guide. The duration and plan depend on the voucher and account. A voucher restores subscription access; it does not turn Monthly Games into permanent purchases.
