Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave supports both mouse controls and button controls, and Nintendo says you can switch between them seamlessly. The mouse option uses Joy-Con 2 controllers to move units and access information. Nintendo has not published a detailed control map or a head-to-head comparison, so there is no established winner for speed, comfort, or accuracy.
What each control option uses
| Option | Hardware Nintendo identifies | What Nintendo says it does |
|---|---|---|
| Mouse controls | Joy-Con 2 controllers | Move units across the battlefield and quickly access helpful information |
| Button controls | Button input; Nintendo’s cited feature description does not specify a different controller setup | Supported, and available to switch to from mouse controls |
Nintendo describes mouse controls as a first for the Fire Emblem series: “For the first time in the Fire Emblem series, you can play with mouse controls using Joy-Con 2 controllers. Intuitively move units across the battlefield, quickly access helpful information, and more, changing seamlessly between button and mouse controls whenever you like.” Nintendo’s game page confirms the feature. This is a description of supported functionality, not a comparative usability test.

How Joy-Con 2 mouse controls work
The mouse mode is tied to Joy-Con 2. Nintendo’s description says the controllers provide mouse controls for navigating the battlefield and reaching information; it does not say that a standard USB or Bluetooth computer mouse works with the game. Don’t assume an ordinary mouse is compatible based on the word “mouse” alone.

Nintendo does not publish a button-by-button mapping, explain how the Joy-Con 2 is positioned or calibrated, or specify which information screens are accessible this way. The confirmed point is the intended use: battlefield movement and information access.

Can you switch between mouse and button controls?
Yes. Nintendo says players can change between the two whenever they like and describes the switch as seamless. That makes it possible to choose an input mode for the task or simply use the one that feels more natural. The feature statement does not detail the exact switching gesture or menu path.
Which controls should you choose?
There is no evidence here to say that mouse controls are faster, more accurate, more comfortable, or better for accessibility than button controls—or the reverse. Nintendo has not published a head-to-head test or a detailed comparison of the control schemes. The practical choice is personal preference: try the Joy-Con 2 mouse option for moving units and accessing information, then use button controls if that interaction suits you better.
