What Happens to Blast ETH, USDB and LSTs as Blast Winds Down?

Blast says users should withdraw assets to Ethereum as it winds down its L2. The announced plan includes a temporary pause, a 24-hour delay afterward, and direct bridge-contract interaction after October 26, 2026.

Blast has announced that it will wind down its Ethereum Layer 2 and asks users to withdraw assets to Ethereum mainnet. The announced plan includes a temporary withdrawal pause while Blast withdraws its Lido assets, then withdrawals with a 24-hour delay. The regular interface is intended to support withdrawals through October 26, 2026; after that, users are expected to interact directly with Blast bridge contracts on Ethereum. These are planned steps, not confirmation that each stage has happened on schedule. The Block reported the wind-down on October 2, 2026, and the reproduced project notice gives the operational details.

What Blast has announced

Blast says the economics of operating the chain no longer make sense: its ongoing costs exceed revenue generated by the L2, and it sees no credible path to economic sustainability. The statement is attributed to Blast in the project notice, not to a named individual. The notice asks users to move assets to Ethereum mainnet, including balances held in the Blast PWA. It does not describe an automatic unwind of every app, pool, lending market, or vault on Blast.

Planned withdrawal timeline

Stage What the announced plan says What to keep in mind
Lido asset withdrawal Withdrawals are expected to be unavailable for approximately one week while Blast withdraws its Lido assets. The notice does not provide exact start or end times. Do not assume the pause has begun or ended based only on the approximate duration.
After the Lido stage Withdrawals are expected to resume with a 24-hour delay. This is the announced delay after the pause, not a promise of immediate receipt. Check the current withdrawal status and transaction details.
Through October 26, 2026 The regular Blast interface is intended to support withdrawals through this date. The date is part of the announced plan and is still ahead as of October 4, 2026.
After October 26, 2026 The notice says users will need to interact directly with Blast bridge contracts on Ethereum. Detailed instructions were not included in the available notice material; Blast said further instructions would be published before then.

The Blast bridge interface presents withdrawal functionality, but that alone does not establish that withdrawals are available at a particular moment or that every asset and position follows the same route. Use current official guidance when acting.

How the route differs by asset

Asset or position What Blast documents or announces What that does not establish
ETH held on Blast Blast describes ETH on Blast as rebasing, with yield linked to Ethereum staking and initially to Lido. The shutdown notice describes a route for withdrawing assets to Ethereum. It does not guarantee the timing or exact amount for an individual balance. The temporary pause concerns Blast withdrawing its Lido assets; it is not a statement that each user’s balance is an identical Lido position.
USDB held on Blast Blast describes USDB as an auto-rebasing stablecoin that can be redeemed for DAI when bridging back to Ethereum. This general bridge description does not mean USDB deposited in a separate lending market, liquidity pool, vault, or other contract is automatically withdrawn or converted. That position may need to be exited through its own protocol first.
Blast-native nrETH or nrUSDB Blast’s developer guide describes these as non-rebasing wrappers that can be unwrapped to WETH or USDB, respectively. This wrapper mechanism is specific to the documented Blast tokens; it is not a universal exit method for assets called LSTs.
External LSTs or protocol positions The shutdown notice does not enumerate outcomes for third-party liquid staking tokens or positions held in dapps. The route depends on the exact token, contract, and protocol. Do not assume that backing or withdrawal of Blast’s Lido assets redeems every user’s stETH, wstETH, or other LST.

Blast’s About page describes the project’s rebasing ETH and USDB model; the developer guide to WETH and USDB yield explains the nrETH and nrUSDB wrappers. These describe token mechanics, not a complete shutdown-specific procedure for every asset or dapp.

What to check before withdrawing

  1. Find where the asset is held. A wallet balance on Blast, a Blast PWA balance, and a deposit in a lending market or liquidity pool can require different steps. The notice explicitly includes PWA balances but does not spell out each dapp’s unwind.
  2. Identify the exact token and contract. Distinguish rebasing Blast ETH or USDB from Blast’s nrETH/nrUSDB wrappers and from external LSTs. For a wrapper, confirm the documented unwrap route; for an external token, consult the protocol that holds it.
  3. Check the current withdrawal stage. The announced pause, subsequent 24-hour delay, ordinary-interface period, and post-deadline contract route are different conditions. Confirm which is currently in effect before initiating a transaction.
  4. Use the interface or contract route specified for that date. The notice directs users to the ordinary Blast interface through October 26, 2026, and to direct interaction with bridge contracts on Ethereum afterward. Since detailed post-deadline instructions were not yet available in the notice material, do not guess contract calls or rely on unofficial instructions.
  5. Verify the transaction and destination on Ethereum. Follow the current official instructions for the token you are moving and check the receiving address and transaction details before signing. A bridge withdrawal is distinct from separately redeeming or unwinding a position in another protocol.

What remains unspecified

The published shutdown details establish an intended sequence and interface deadline, but not exact timestamps for the Lido-related pause, confirmed completion of each future step, or a universal procedure for every third-party LST and dapp-held balance. The post-October 26 contract instructions were also still to come in the available notice. For any non-wallet position, the relevant protocol’s current instructions and the exact contract matter as much as Blast’s general bridge description.
