Choose a grinder with adjustment fine enough for espresso. As one manufacturer-listed example, Casabrews’ TORNADO LCD has 77 settings, including an espresso-fine range identified as settings 1–25. Its listing includes cradles for 51 mm, 54 mm, and 58 mm portafilters. These specifications do not establish that every cradle or accessory will fit every Casabrews machine; confirm fit for your specific portafilter and workflow before buying. What coffee should you use?
If you grind at home, buy whole beans and grind them for espresso. If you do not have a grinder, use ground coffee only if its grind works with the filter supplied with your machine. Casabrews support materials discuss both beans and grounds but do not require a particular coffee brand, origin, or roast level. If espresso drips, runs slowly, or does not flow
- Try a coarser grind; coffee that is too fine can slow or stop flow.
- Check whether the filter is overfilled.
- Check that you are not tamping too firmly.
If espresso runs through too quickly
- Try a finer grind; coffee that is too coarse can let water pass too quickly.
- Check whether the filter has too little coffee.
- Check that you are tamping adequately rather than too lightly.
Before buying a grinder or accessories
- Identify your machine’s exact model and confirm whether it includes a grinder.
- Check the portafilter and basket supplied with your machine.
