The official Google sources cited here do not identify “Google Trade Show” as the proper name of one event.

Is Google I/O a trade show?
Google describes Google I/O as its annual developer conference, where it shares updates on platforms, products, and future innovations. The 2026 event description included keynotes, fireside chats, and product demonstrations. Those activities may look exhibition-like, but they do not by themselves make the whole event a trade show.

Google I/O has changed over time. In Google’s 2023 account of its history, an early developer gathering at its Mountain View campus drew 100 attendees in 2006. Google Developer Day in 2007 had 1,000 tickets, and in 2008 the event moved to San Francisco’s Moscone Center West and took the name Google I/O. How can a Google event include a trade-show-style area?
A conference can contain an expo floor, booths, demonstrations, or sponsor showcases without the entire event being a trade show. Google Cloud Next’s Showcase is an example: Google describes an expo floor with interactive demonstrations and customer and developer theaters. Google also distinguishes I/O from I/O Connect. I/O Connect is a hands-on, in-person developer event series focused on applying I/O announcements and technology, rather than simply another name for the main conference. Google’s Google I/O 2024 FAQ explains that distinction.
Conference or trade show: what is the difference?
These formats can overlap, so the best way to classify an event is by its main purpose and program—not by the presence of a booth or demo.
