Google Meet is Google’s app for video meetings and calls, and you can use it on a compatible Samsung Android phone with an internet connection. Meetings and direct calls are separate experiences in the app: meetings use meeting links, while calls require calling setup and may require phone-number verification. Google lists Android 5.0 and up as the mobile-app baseline, but features can vary by phone and software version.
What “Meet” means on a Samsung phone
Meet is Google’s video-meeting and calling service, not a separate Samsung subscription. Google describes meetings and calls as distinct experiences in the Meet app. A meeting typically starts from a meeting link; a call is a direct call through Meet and has its own setup requirements. Google lists Android 5.0 and up as the minimum for the Meet mobile app. You also need internet access and a compatible, current app. Check Google’s Meet requirements if installation or compatibility is an issue.

- Open or install Google Meet. Use the Meet app on your Samsung phone.
- Sign in to a Google Account. Meeting access and participation rules may depend on the meeting or organization’s settings; a participant does not necessarily need to be the organizer.
- Allow camera and microphone access. Android prompts for these permissions when needed. If you deny access, video or audio may not work until you change the app permissions.
- Join from a meeting link or start a meeting. Follow the options shown in Meet for the meeting you want to attend.
Google also supports Meet through certain browsers, but the steps above focus on the Android app on Samsung phones.

How Meet calls differ from meetings
Calls are not just another name for meetings. A direct Meet call requires calling setup, which can include enabling calling and verifying your phone number. Google’s Android call troubleshooting guidance also recommends completing registration, granting permissions, and keeping Meet and Gmail updated to avoid missed incoming calls.

Samsung-specific video-call controls
Some options visible during a video call may come from Samsung’s software rather than Meet. For example, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 FE guide, a 2024 European edition, describes video-call effects that can adjust camera framing and zoom. That documentation is specific to the model and edition; it does not establish that every Galaxy phone has the same feature or menu. Check your device’s settings and manual for its current options.

What Google says about Meet privacy and encryption
Google’s privacy descriptions differ between personal calls and meetings. For 1:1 and group calls in the new Meet app, Google says audio and video are end-to-end encrypted and not stored on Google servers. Google says call messages are stored encrypted on its servers; when live captions are used, audio is temporarily sent to a transcription server, is not linked to user identifiers, and is not permanently stored. Meet meetings are described as cloud-encrypted, not end-to-end encrypted. Google says meeting traffic is encrypted in transit, and recordings are encrypted at rest in Drive. Work or school accounts may also be subject to organization controls and logging. Google’s encryption overview provides further detail. These distinctions mean it is inaccurate to say that everything in Meet is end-to-end encrypted.

Fix common Meet problems on a Samsung phone
No one can hear you
- Check microphone access at Settings > Apps > Meet > Permissions > Microphone. Samsung menu names can vary by software version.
- Make sure you are not muted and that Meet is using the audio input you intend.
- For additional steps, use Google’s Android audio help.
Bluetooth audio is missing or using the wrong device
- Confirm Bluetooth is on and connected to the intended headset or speaker.
- Disconnect and reconnect the device, then check the audio device selected in the call.

Audio or video quality is poor
- Update Meet and check your Wi-Fi or internet connection; try a more stable network if available.
- Google suggests trying a headset with a microphone for poor audio or video quality. Confirm the headset’s wired or wireless connection works with your particular Galaxy phone.

Incoming calls do not ring
- Check that Meet and Gmail are installed and updated, then complete Meet calling registration.
- Verify your phone number and grant the relevant permissions.
- Organization settings can affect some accounts. Google’s Android call troubleshooting page lists additional checks.
