There isn’t one FPS number for every PC. Rockstar says the PC version can run at 60 frames per second, but that is a supported capability—not a promise for every computer, resolution, graphics setting, or edition. Your result depends on your CPU, graphics card, RAM, and whether you play GTAV Enhanced or GTAV Legacy.
What FPS does GTA run at on PC?
Rockstar’s April 14, 2015 PC launch announcement said players could experience the game running at 60 frames per second and explore at resolutions up to 4K and beyond. That describes what the PC release can support; it is not a benchmark result for a specific PC or a guarantee of 60 FPS at every resolution and setting.

Rockstar’s current PC system requirements distinguish GTAV Enhanced from GTAV Legacy. They help you check compatibility and compare broad hardware tiers, but they do not give an FPS prediction for a particular configuration.

Rockstar lists separate requirements for Enhanced and Legacy. The figures below are from its requirements page, last updated December 10, 2025. Rockstar notes that downloadable content and programming changes can alter requirements over time.

Use the row for the edition you actually launch. Enhanced’s recommended graphics cards are a hardware reference, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate. Meeting minimum requirements likewise does not establish a specific FPS.
Is GTA 5 on PC capped at 60 or 120 FPS?
Rockstar’s published 60 FPS statement does not say that the game is capped at 60. Nor do its update notes establish a current universal 120 FPS cap. The GTAV Title Update 1.70 notes record a version-specific Enhanced issue in which a 120 Hz cap could apply when Frame Limit was Off; Rockstar marked that issue fixed on March 5, 2025.

The same notes record a fix for a Story Mode mission halting at extremely high frame rates and, on March 13, a fix for frame rate dropping underwater. These are dated fixes for specific problems, not a specification of the game’s current maximum frame rate or a promise that every high-FPS setup is problem-free.

Rockstar’s requirements alone cannot produce a trustworthy FPS estimate for an individual computer. For a useful estimate, identify the following details and look for benchmark results that match them closely:

- Edition: GTAV Enhanced or GTAV Legacy.
- CPU and GPU: Include the exact model names; the graphics card’s video memory can also matter.
- RAM: State the amount and, for Enhanced, whether it is dual-channel.
- Resolution and graphics settings: A result at one resolution and preset does not establish performance at another.
- Frame limit and display refresh rate: These settings affect the frame output you can see, but a higher-refresh display by itself does not make the PC render more frames.
For context, Rockstar’s Enhanced recommendation is an RTX 3060 with 8 GB VRAM or an RX 6600 XT with 8 GB VRAM. That comparison can help place a system in a broad tier, but it cannot substitute for a benchmark using the same edition, CPU, resolution, and settings. If you share those PC details, an estimate can be narrowed to a more relevant configuration.
