Fitbit Premium is now called Google Health Premium. The paid membership adds Google Health Coach, personalized plans and guidance, and workout and mindfulness content to the activity, sleep and health tracking available in the free Base tier. It is most likely worth paying for if you expect to use those coaching and content features regularly; basic tracking alone may not justify the subscription.
What does Fitbit Premium include?
Google renamed Fitbit Premium to Google Health Premium on May 19, 2026. The name Fitbit Premium remains familiar, but Google’s current membership and feature descriptions use Google Health Premium. Google’s help page explains the change and current feature availability.

What do you get with Fitbit Premium versus free Fitbit?
Google calls the free level Base. Its current US product page lists substantial tracking in Base, including Readiness, so it is not accurate to assume every score, insight or health measure requires a paid membership. The practical difference is largely tracking in Base versus personalized coaching and content in Premium.
| Feature area | Base (free) | Google Health Premium (paid) |
|---|---|---|
| Activity | Steps, calories, distance, cardio load and Readiness tracking. | Base benefits, plus Coach guidance and adaptive fitness plans. |
| Sleep | Sleep score, schedule, duration and stages. | Base benefits, plus personalized sleep summaries with coaching insights. |
| Health measures | Heart rate, heart-rate variability, breathing rate, blood oxygen and medical records. | Base benefits, plus proactive insights and medical record summaries with follow-up questions for Coach. |
| Logging | Weight, nutrition, water intake, moods and cycles. | Base benefits. |
| Coaching and content | The listed Base benefits do not include the Premium Coach, workout library or mindfulness sessions. | Ask Coach, weekly adaptive plans, workout library and mindfulness sessions. |

Who can use Premium, and is there a free trial?
Google says Premium Coach features currently require a Fitbit or Pixel Watch and an adult user. They are available only in the countries listed on Google’s help page, which includes the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Japan and multiple European and Asian markets. Because the supported list can change, check Google’s current country and eligibility information before subscribing.
Some new or returning Google Account users may be offered a three-month trial after updating to the Google Health app. Google also says every Fitbit Air includes three months of Premium. Neither offer should be assumed to apply to every account or purchase; eligibility and terms matter. Check the offer shown in your account or at checkout. What happens when a trial or subscription renews?
Google’s Paid Services terms say subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. A free trial converts to recurring billing unless you cancel before it ends. Cancellation ordinarily stops future charges at the end of the current subscription term rather than refunding the term already paid. Google says it will notify you of fees before charging and may change prices after notice. Check the renewal date and specific terms in your account before starting a trial or changing plans. Read Google’s Paid Services terms.
Is Fitbit Premium worth paying for?
Whether Google Health Premium is worth its price depends on whether you will use the features beyond tracking. This is a value judgment based on Google’s published feature split and prices, not evidence that the service produces a particular health outcome.

- You do not already have access through an eligible Google AI Pro or Ultra tier.

- You already pay for equivalent coaching, workout or mindfulness content elsewhere.
Before subscribing, confirm your device, country and age meet the current Coach requirements, compare the monthly and annual offer shown to you, and note when any trial renews. Google’s feature descriptions do not establish clinical effectiveness or prove the membership is worth a particular amount for every user.
Do you need Fitbit Premium to use Fitbit?
No. Google’s Base tier includes activity, sleep and health tracking, along with logging tools, when paired with a watch or tracker. A paid membership is for the additional Coach features and content, not a prerequisite for ordinary tracking. If you are choosing a device, Google lists trackers such as Fitbit Charge 6, but an existing compatible Fitbit or Pixel Watch owner does not need to buy another device solely to subscribe.
