For the documented Standard 4 X system, Starlink supplies the terminal, a kickstand, Router 3, a 15 m Starlink cable, a 1.5 m AC power cable and a power supply unit. You use the Starlink app to check for obstructions, connect the terminal to the router, connect the router to power and confirm that the dish has a clear view of the sky. The kickstand is intended for ground-level use or an initial test; a permanent roof, pole or wall position may require a separately selected compatible mount.
Those are the requirements shown in Starlink’s Standard 4 X documentation, not a guarantee of what every Indian address can order. The available official material does not establish current Indian service eligibility, the exact kit generation offered at a particular address, local accessory stock or installer coverage. Check the live India order flow and the kit details shown for your address before buying equipment.

What is included in the documented Standard 4 X kit?
Starlink’s Standard 4 X setup guide lists six pieces. The list is model-specific: Starlink publishes separate instructions for other hardware generations, and their ports, cables or alignment procedures can differ.
| In-box item | Purpose in the standard setup |
|---|---|
| Standard Starlink terminal | The outdoor unit that communicates with satellites. |
| Kickstand | Supports the terminal at ground level or during an initial connection test. |
| Router 3 | The indoor network device that connects the terminal to your local devices. |
| Starlink cable (15 m / 49.2 ft) | Runs between the terminal and the router. |
| AC power cable (1.5 m / 4.92 ft) | Connects the power supply to an AC outlet. |
| Power supply unit | Provides power to the Starlink equipment. |
Do not treat this table as a universal Starlink bill of materials. Confirm the exact model name and contents on the order page or packaging for your Indian address. A different kit may use different hardware or instructions.

How the parts connect
In the Standard setup shown by Starlink, one end of the supplied Starlink cable plugs into the terminal and the other end goes into the router port marked for the antenna. The router then connects to its power supply and the AC outlet. Starlink’s instructions emphasise that the connectors must be fully seated. The cable arrangement described here applies to the Standard 4 X guide; do not assume another generation has the same port labels or wiring.
Why the installation location matters more than the mount
Starlink says the terminal needs a clear view of the sky so it can remain connected as satellites move overhead. Before fixing anything permanently, use the Starlink app’s obstruction tool at each candidate location. The app-led check is the fastest way to discover a blocked section of sky.
Starlink specifically warns that an object such as a tree branch, pole or roof in the connection path can cause service interruptions. A location that looks open from one angle can still be unsuitable when viewed across the whole sky, so check the exact spot where the terminal will sit rather than checking only from the ground nearby.

A practical site-selection sequence
- Install the Starlink app on your phone.
- Stand at the proposed terminal position and run the app’s obstruction check.
- Repeat the check at other possible positions if the app identifies blocked sky.
- Choose the site that combines the clearest sky view with a realistic cable route to the router and a safe place for the power connection.
- Only after the location passes the check should you decide whether the supplied kickstand is sufficient or a permanent mount is needed.
This order prevents a common mistake: purchasing or attaching a mount first and discovering that the selected wall, roof or pole position is obstructed.

Kickstand, wall, pole or roof: which installation approach fits?
The supplied kickstand is not described as a permanent elevated mount. Starlink positions it for ground-level installation or a quick test. That makes it useful for confirming that the system can see the sky and connect before you invest in additional hardware.
| Approach | When it makes sense | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Included kickstand | Ground-level placement or an initial connection test. | That the location has the required clear sky view and the cable can reach the router. |
| Wall mount | A permanent installation on a suitable wall. | That the mount fits the exact terminal generation and the wall position passes the app obstruction check. |
| Pipe adapter | A permanent installation using a compatible pole or pipe. | The adapter’s fit for your model and the stability of the chosen support. |
| Pivot mount | A permanent installation where the listed pivot hardware suits the surface and angle. | Model compatibility and an unobstructed view from the final position. |
| Roof or other elevated mounting | When an elevated position is the clearest practical site. | The exact compatible hardware, cable path and whether you need qualified local help. |
Starlink’s installation material names roof, pole and wall mounting and shows wall, pipe-adapter and pivot mounts. It does not establish that every mount works with every Starlink generation. Match the accessory to the precise model shown in your order and follow that mount’s instructions. Do not assume a roof mount is automatically required simply because the system is installed outdoors.
How to perform the basic self-installation
Starlink presents the standard setup as suitable for self-installation. The following sequence follows the actions in its Standard guide.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Install the app. Download and open the Starlink app before positioning the equipment. Use it to check the sky view and, later, to monitor setup status.
- Choose a tested position. Place the terminal on the supplied kickstand at ground level, or at the final location if you already have a confirmed compatible mount. The app obstruction tool should show a clear path.
- Connect the terminal cable. Insert the supplied 15 m Starlink cable into the terminal and route the other end indoors to the router. Avoid leaving a connector partially inserted.
- Plug into the router’s antenna-marked port. The Standard guide directs the terminal cable to the router port marked for the antenna. Push the connector fully home.
- Connect router power. Connect the router to its power supply, then use the supplied 1.5 m AC power cable to connect the power supply to an outlet.
- Wait for the system to start. Keep the equipment connected while the app reports the setup state. Do not relocate the terminal during this initial check unless the app identifies an obstruction.
- Confirm the result in the app. Use the app to verify that the terminal has a usable sky view and that the system has completed its connection process.
The guide’s connector instruction is important: an apparently connected cable can still fail if it is not fully seated. If the app does not show a connection, power down only as directed by the current guide, reseat the relevant connector and repeat the check rather than immediately buying a different mount or cable.

Planning the cable and indoor equipment
The supplied terminal cable is 15 m (49.2 ft), while the AC power cable is 1.5 m (4.92 ft). Measure the route from the proposed terminal position to the router before committing to a permanent installation. A site can pass the obstruction test but still be impractical if the cable cannot reach the indoor router without an unsuitable route.
- Keep the router where the supplied terminal cable can reach it without putting strain on either connector.
- Place the power supply close enough to the router and an AC outlet for the 1.5 m power cable to reach.
- Plan the entry point and cable path before drilling or fixing a mount.
- Leave enough slack for the terminal’s final position, but do not create a route that can pull on the connectors.
- When changing from a temporary kickstand test to a permanent mount, re-check the entire cable path rather than assuming the original route will work.
These measurements come from the Standard 4 X equipment list. They should not be projected onto a different Starlink kit.
Self-installation or professional installation?
Self-installation is appropriate when the site is straightforward
A self-install is a reasonable choice when the app finds a clear sky view, the kickstand provides a suitable test position, the cable route is manageable and you are using the exact instructions for your kit. The standard process consists of app-based site checking, connecting the supplied cable, powering the router and confirming the result.

The official setup pages used for the equipment description are global or refer to other country locales. They do not verify current Starlink activation, address eligibility, kit inventory, accessory stock or installer coverage in India. Use the following checklist in the live India order flow:
- Enter the complete service address and confirm that Starlink accepts it for ordering and activation.
- Record the exact kit name and generation displayed for that address; do not assume it is Standard 4 X.
- Read the in-box equipment list shown at checkout and compare it with the hardware you expect.
- Check which mounts are offered for that model and whether a wall, pipe-adapter or pivot accessory is actually available.
- Confirm delivery, installation and activation details shown for your address.
- If you want professional installation, verify that the option is offered locally and obtain the applicable fee directly through the current official channel.
Until those checks are complete, describe the Standard 4 X parts list as the documented reference configuration, not as a confirmed India-specific SKU.

The app reports obstructions
Move the terminal to another tested position and run the obstruction tool again. Trees, poles and roofs are examples Starlink identifies as causes of interruptions. Changing to a more expensive mount will not solve a blocked sky view if the new position remains in the same obstruction path.

The router does not appear to connect
Check that the terminal cable is in the router’s antenna-marked port and that every connector is fully seated. Confirm that the router is connected to its power supply and that the power supply is connected to the outlet with the supplied AC cable. Use the app to check the setup state before changing hardware.
The cable reaches the router only with tension
Reconsider the terminal position or the router location. The Standard kit provides a 15 m terminal cable; forcing a connector to reach can create a poor installation even when the sky view is clear. Measure the route again before selecting a permanent mount.
You are unsure whether a mount fits
Do not rely on a generic product description. Starlink lists separate guides for different kits, and the available installation material does not establish cross-generation compatibility. Confirm the exact terminal model and the mount’s stated fit before purchase.
Quick Recap
A concise decision framework
- Check eligibility first: verify the current India address, service status and kit shown at checkout.
- Check the sky second: use the app obstruction tool at every candidate location.
- Test with the supplied stand: use the kickstand at ground level to confirm the basic connection when practical.
- Choose permanent hardware only after testing: select a compatible wall, pipe-adapter, pivot, roof or other mount based on the surface and exact kit.
- Choose the installation route: self-install a straightforward site; investigate professional help for unusual access, mounting or cable-routing challenges.
