Manual-focus Minolta SR, MC and MD lenses are a different mount. They do not fit a DSLR the same way, so check which family your lens belongs to before you pick a body.
Step one: identify the Minolta mount
“Older Minolta lens” covers two incompatible families. The mount, not the brand, decides which camera works.

| Lens family | How to recognize it | Native DSLR match |
|---|---|---|
| Minolta AF (A mount) | Marked Maxxum or Dynax; autofocus | Sony A-mount DSLRs (DSLR-Axx) |
| Minolta SR / MC / MD | Manual focus, older film-era lenses marked MC or MD | None. Adapter-dependent, with compromises |
Autofocus Maxxum/Dynax lenses: use a Sony A-mount DSLR
Sony’s specifications for the DSLR-A500 list compatibility with A-mount bayonet lenses from Minolta and Konica Minolta as “YES”, which covers α, Maxxum and Dynax lenses. The A500 is a useful example of what you get:
- A 23.5 × 15.6 mm APS-C sensor, so the angle of view is narrower than the same lens on a 35 mm film frame.
- In-body SteadyShot stabilization that works with Sony DSLR and Minolta/Konica Minolta A-mount lenses. Stabilization comes from the body, so older lenses without it still benefit.
The A500 is an older model. Judge any body you consider by its condition and by lens compatibility, not by assuming it is still sold new.
#1 Best Overall
- This adapter ring allows you to use the Minolta MD/MC lens on the NIK0N SLR / DSLR cameras body, it's saving you the expense of a costly and irreversible conversion.
- The inside glass design using coated optical glass offer better optical performance.
- The lens distance scale can be used as well as the focusing to infinity and the adapter has correction lens inside.
- Completely manual control, manual focus and manual exposure. (No electrical connection, AF-Focus is not allowed.)
- Note: Although the lens will fit physically, automatic diaphragm, auto-focusing, or any other functions will not operate correctly while using this adapter. In this case since the lens does not have the ability to have its aperture controlled by the camera body. You can shoot with manual mode or aperture priority mode.
Check the exact lens and body pairing
Native mount compatibility is not a guarantee that every lens works fully. Sony’s model-specific compatibility pages, such as the one for the DSLR-A450, separate fully compatible lenses from restricted ones. Look up your exact lens model on the page for the exact body you plan to buy.
Manual-focus SR/MC/MD lenses on a DSLR
These lenses do not fit A mount, and the problem is optical as well as physical. Panasonic’s AG-AF100 technical white paper (2010) lists the flange back distance, the gap from mount to sensor, as 43.5 mm for Minolta SR/MD and 44.5 mm for Sony/Minolta α (A mount).

- Premium grade Fotodiox adapter
- 24-Month Fotodiox Warranty
The SR/MD lens is designed to sit 1 mm closer to the sensor than A mount allows. A simple adapter with no glass would have to hold the lens farther out than intended, so the lens would not reach infinity focus. Adapters with corrective optics can compensate. The sources I could verify do not establish how any specific one performs, or whether it keeps functions such as exposure metering or aperture control. Treat any such adapter as a compromise and confirm the exact lens, adapter and body combination before buying.
A better route for SR/MC/MD lenses: a mirrorless body
A mirrorless camera has a short flange distance, so a plain SR/MC/MD-to-E-mount adapter has room to work. It does not need corrective glass to hold the lens at the right distance. Choose the adapter made for your lens mount and your camera’s mount. The fact that Sony says A-mount lenses can be adapted to E-mount does not mean SR/MC/MD lenses fit E mount directly.

- 【One adapter, so many options】 NOTE: No focus at infinity, only for macro shots, more suitable for photography with a telephoto lens. Compatible with Minolta MD MC mount lens, Compatible with Canon EOS EF mount cameras. Using the PHOLSY adapter, you can mount the MD-lens on your digital EOS EF-camera instead of the EF-lens
- 【No loss of image quality or speed】No focus at infinity, only for macro shots. When using the PHOLSY-adapter, no mechanical or electrical functions, signals or data are transferred between EOS EF system cameras and lenses. So have to manually adjust all settings (no autofocus)
- 【New exterior design, solid & durable】Built from aviation grade aluminum and copper, the MOUNT ADAPTER is strong and lightweight with a durable finish, really very resistant and performing for vintage lenses
- 【Precisely matched】The lens mount adapter compatible with Canon EOS EF mount camera is well constructed and makes a tight fitting connection to the lens and camera body, to preserve the performance of pro-level cameras and lenses. And it makes a precise fit with the camera and lens, crucial for meticulous performance. Attaches and detaches to the camera body smoothly and cleanly. No light leakage. Keep using the lenses you love with the most innovative camera bodies available
- 【Clever design】Easy to mount and dismount. Travel lighter, use one set of lenses with two camera bodies. Best of new and old, use vintage lenses with your digital camera.【Note】You must set in the camera menu to "shoot with no lens attached"
Adapters can limit features. Sony’s mount explainer says A-mount lenses work directly on cameras with a mirror or translucent mirror (for example DSLR-Axx and SLT-Axx), and it warns that adapting A-mount lenses to E-mount can affect functions such as autofocus and stabilization.

Pre-purchase checklist
- Read the lens barrel. Maxxum or Dynax means A mount. MC or MD means the manual SR family.
- For A-mount lenses, choose a Sony A-mount DSLR and look up the lens on that body’s compatibility page.
- Remember APS-C cropping: the A500’s sensor changes the framing compared with film.
- For manual lenses, decide whether you accept an adapter compromise on a DSLR or would rather use a mirrorless body.
- With any adapter, confirm autofocus, exposure, aperture actuation, stabilization and infinity focus for your exact lens and body. Official sources do not validate a specific third-party SR/MD-to-A adapter.
