Codan’s share-price outlook depends most directly on whether its Communications and Metal Detection businesses can sustain profitable growth—and whether they can turn demand into shipped products and earnings. Codan’s 29 September 2026 update pointed to very strong Communications demand and a solid Minelab start to H1 FY27, but also flagged limited visibility on conflict-region demand beyond three months and emerging electronics supply constraints. These operating disclosures help explain what investors may watch; they do not prove what caused a particular day’s share-price move or whether the market has already priced in the outlook.
How Codan’s businesses feed into its results
Codan reports two main operating segments with different sources of demand: Communications, which includes DTC and Zetron, and Metal Detection, principally Minelab. Communications serves military and public-safety applications; Minelab sells gold-detection and recreational-market products. Their sales patterns, margins and visibility differ, so investors often assess them separately as well as looking at group earnings.

Communications: defence and public-safety demand
For H1 FY26, Codan reported Communications revenue of $221.8 million, up 19%, segment profit of $58.3 million and an orderbook of $294 million, up 19% year over year at 31 December 2025. DTC’s unmanned-sector revenue rose 68% to $73 million. Codan said about half of that unmanned revenue related to operational defence applications in conflict zones; the rest reflected adoption in non-conflict defence and security programs in Asia, the US and Europe. That split matters because broad-based demand may have a different duration and risk profile from demand concentrated in conflict regions.
Communications’ H1 FY26 segment margin was 26.3%. Codan attributed slower margin improvement to Zetron’s challenging trading environment and the full-period contribution from Kägwerks, and set a target of a 30% Communications segment margin by the end of FY27. The target is not a reported result.

Metal Detection: gold conditions, products and regional mix
In H1 FY26, Metal Detection revenue was $168.0 million, up 46%, and segment profit was $76.2 million, up 86%. Minelab Africa revenue was approximately $95 million, driven primarily by West African demand for gold-detection technology and favourable gold-price conditions. The segment margin rose to 45% from 36% in the prior corresponding period as gold-detector sales made up a larger share of revenue. Rest of World revenue grew at a high-teens rate, supported by recreational demand, product introductions and expansion of Minelab’s direct-to-consumer e-commerce platform.
These figures show that metal-detection performance can reflect more than the gold price: product mix, launches and sales outside Africa also contributed in the periods Codan described. The disclosures do not establish that gold-price changes mechanically cause detector sales to rise or fall.

What Codan’s latest update says about H1 FY27
Communications: a strong near-term outlook, with a visibility limit
In its 29 September 2026 update, Codan expected H1 FY27 Communications revenue of $400–410 million and a segment EBIT margin around 40%. It estimated that conflict-region revenue would account for approximately 50% of H1 FY27 Communications revenue, compared with approximately 20% in the prior corresponding period. At the same time, it expected demand outside conflict regions to grow about 20% year over year, broadly across regions and markets.

That makes the H1 estimate a near-term signal, not evidence that the same level of demand or margin will continue through H2. The roughly 40% H1 FY27 margin estimate is also a different demand and mix environment from the 26.3% H1 FY26 margin; it should not be treated as a new normal without further results.

Minelab: launches and a solid start
The September update described Minelab’s start to H1 FY27 as solid. Codan cited demand for the recently launched GPZ 8000 and Gold Monster 2000 detectors, a favourable gold price and continued Rest of World expansion. It said Minelab’s revenue run-rate was slightly above H2 FY26 levels. This is management’s explanation of current trading, rather than proof that any single factor determines future sales.

Codan said FY26 growth reflected strong organic performance and the full-year contribution from Kägwerks. It also said EBIT and NPAT were slightly above its 29 April 2026 guidance. These are historical results, not forecasts of future earnings or returns.

For H1 FY27, Codan expected group NPAT of at least $160 million, subject to final product mix and shipments. It targeted FY27 Communications revenue growth of 30–40% versus FY26, while saying it was too early to determine whether H1 demand and margins would continue into H2. Strong order momentum across Communications and Minelab was creating potential supply-chain constraints, which Codan said it was seeking to mitigate. If constraints affect production or shipments, orders may not convert into revenue on the expected timetable.

How to judge whether demand is durable
Investors can use the company’s disclosures to test the quality and staying power of growth, rather than treating a headline revenue forecast as the whole story.

What the operating outlook cannot tell you about the share price
Strong results or guidance do not by themselves establish that a share is cheap, that its price should rise, or that a specific trading-day move was caused by one operating update. The company disclosures covered here do not establish current market expectations, Codan’s valuation multiple or how much of the outlook investors may already have anticipated. Those questions require market-price, consensus and valuation information in addition to operating results.
The practical takeaway is to separate reported performance from forward-looking estimates, and both from the share price itself. Codan’s latest update signals substantial near-term demand, particularly in Communications, while the duration of conflict-related orders and the ability to fulfil demand remain material variables.
