There is no single meaning for an orange or amber Bose soundbar light: it depends on the model, where the light is, and whether it is steady, dim, blinking, or flashing a set number of times. On some newer Bose soundbars, steady amber is the expected Wi-Fi setup state—not an error. Check your model and the indicator pattern before resetting or troubleshooting.
First identify the model, light and pattern
Find the model name on the soundbar, in the Bose app, or in its product guide. Then check whether the light is on the soundbar itself or on a separate bass module or surround component. Bose uses different indicators for different functions, so “orange” by itself is not enough to diagnose a problem.

- Steady: continuously lit.
- Dim: continuously lit at low brightness.
- Blinking: repeatedly turning on and off; note whether the blink is slow or fast.
- Flashing: count the flashes if they occur in a distinct sequence.
What amber means on different Bose models

What to do if the light is orange
- Match the light to the exact model and component. A bass-module indicator is not necessarily the soundbar’s status light. For example, Bose says the SoundTouch 130 soundbar’s status light glows only if there is a system error; amber descriptions in its guide refer to the Acoustimass module. See the SoundTouch 130 indicator guide.
- If the guide identifies setup mode, finish setup in the Bose app. Steady amber on the Smart Soundbar or Soundbar 550/850 can be expected while connecting to Wi-Fi. Follow the app’s prompts rather than treating the light as proof of a fault.
- If a bass module is blinking amber, follow its pairing procedure. Bose describes blinking amber on the Acoustimass wireless bass module as ready to pair. A dim solid amber light means it is disconnected. Check that the power cords and cables are secure. For common bass-module connection problems, Bose’s guide recommends unplugging both the soundbar and module, waiting 30 seconds, and reconnecting them.
- Use a wired fallback only for a compatible bass-module pairing problem. Bose says that if the described module cannot pair wirelessly, it can be connected to the soundbar with an optional 3.5 mm audio cable, which is not included. Confirm that the exact soundbar and module support this connection before using or buying a cable; it is not a general remedy for every orange light.
- For an identified source or service error, check the app and model guide. The Soundbar 550/850 guide directs users to the Bose app for a four-flash source error. Follow the model’s guidance for other source, service, or system-error states.
Should you reset the soundbar?
Do not start with a factory restore just because the light is amber. A factory restore clears settings, and Bose documents that restoring a Soundbar 550 ends with a steady amber light indicating Setup mode. That means amber after the restore can be the setup state, not evidence that the reset failed. Bose’s Soundbar 550 reset instructions explain the restore procedure; a power reset and a factory restore are different actions.

When the light still does not make sense
If the pattern does not match the guide for your exact model, or the guide points to a system error, use Bose’s model-specific app or support instructions. Amber alone does not establish that the soundbar is broken; the model, indicator location, and pattern are needed to interpret it.
