What Rest Mode can do
Rest Mode uses less power than leaving the console fully on. Depending on your settings, the PS5 can charge a connected controller and download or install content while resting. These functions are not necessarily enabled on every console; Sony notes that some require the relevant settings to be turned on. Sony’s Rest Mode and power-saving guidance
Do not unplug the console while its light is on
Wait until the power indicator is off before disconnecting the AC cord. Sony warns that unplugging it while the indicator is solid or blinking could cause data loss or corruption, or damage the console. Sony’s PS5 quick-start guidance

Check whether the light is on the console or controller
The console power indicator and the DualSense controller light bar are separate indicators. A DualSense controller may slowly blink orange while charging in Rest Mode; Sony says its light turns off when charging is complete. Sony’s DualSense guidance
If the orange glow is on the controller rather than the PS5 itself, it indicates charging—not the console’s power state. Identify which device is lit before interpreting the color.
