Staff augmentation has no standard price: the bill rate changes with the role, seniority, location, specialization, and contract terms. A September 2026 U.S. rate card from KORE1 lists IT roles from $50 to $240 per hour, but that is one provider’s pricing—not a universal market average. To budget realistically, multiply the quoted rate by expected billable hours, then account for costs and client effort that may sit outside the rate.
What staff augmentation rates look like
Published rates are useful as planning references, not guaranteed quotes. The figures below come from providers with different role definitions and pricing methods, so they should not be averaged together or treated as a single market survey.

KORE1’s U.S. IT rate card
KORE1’s rate card for U.S. W-2 placements, last updated September 12, 2026, covers placements across more than 30 U.S. metro areas. Its listed ranges are:

KORE1 says local market conditions, scarce technology stacks, and engagement length affect rates. Its full rate card and methodology are described in KORE1’s 2026 IT staff augmentation pricing guide.

How geography changes software engineering quotes
For software engineering profiles, NextGen Coding Company’s August 26, 2026 guide lists U.S. onshore mid-level rates of $95–$140 per hour, varying by city tier, and senior rates of $130–$185. Its senior bands are $85–$115 in Latin America and $90–$125 in Eastern Europe. These are the provider’s published ranges for software engineering, not all staff-augmentation roles. See NextGen’s rate guide.
NeoWork’s broader regional planning ranges are $70–$150 per hour in North America, $60–$130 in Western Europe, $35–$70 in Eastern Europe, $30–$65 in Latin America, and $20–$45 in South and Southeast Asia. NeoWork cautions that seniority and specialization affect pricing; its figures should not be read as like-for-like quotes for a specific engineering role. Its 2026 IT consulting and staff augmentation guide also explains how these services differ.
How to turn an hourly rate into a budget
The basic estimate is:
Quoted rate × planned billable hours = labor spend
For a multi-month engagement, calculate each month or week using the hours the contract actually bills—not simply the calendar duration. KORE1 uses roughly 173 billable hours per month, derived from 2,080 hours per year. On that assumption, its six-month estimates are $75,000–$119,000 for a mid-level software developer and $145,000–$249,000 for an AI / ML engineer. These are KORE1 estimates, not a promise that every six-month placement will incur those totals.
Replace that assumption with your expected working hours, holidays, ramp-up time, and any contractual minimum. For example, if the provider bills a fixed weekly block, the estimate should use that block even when the person has fewer assigned tasks. Confirm whether onboarding or time spent waiting for access is billed.
Add costs and client effort outside the headline rate
A rate card may not include every expense or the time your own team must contribute. Ask about:
Rank #3
- Recruiting, onboarding, equipment, benefits, taxes, and support charges.
- Tool or software licenses the client must provide.
- Minimum terms, guaranteed hours, renewal terms, and rate changes.
- Billing increments, holiday treatment, and whether unused hours carry over.
- Ramp-up and the time your staff will spend assigning work, reviewing output, and granting access.
- Notice periods, replacement terms for a poor fit, and any conversion fee if you hire the worker.
These details affect total spend even when the hourly rate stays unchanged. For each provider, record the terms alongside the rate rather than comparing headline prices alone.

A vendor bill rate is not equivalent to an employee’s wage. A direct hire also has employer costs and requires recruiting, equipment, management, and time to become productive. Conversely, staff augmentation may carry minimum commitments, vendor fees, and client-side supervision.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported private-industry compensation of $46.89 per hour worked in June 2026, comprising $32.82 in wages and salaries and $14.07 in benefits. Benefits represented 30.0% of private-industry employer compensation costs. This is an economy-wide average, not a software labor cost or a staff-augmentation quote; do not mechanically apply its benefit share to a particular technical salary. The BLS summary was released September 9, 2026: Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026.
Rank #4
For occupational context, BLS reports May 2025 median annual wages of $135,980 for software developers and $104,300 for software QA analysts and testers. Those are employee wage medians, not employer total costs or vendor bill rates. The figures and occupational definitions appear in the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook.

A lower advertised rate does not prove lower total cost if the role scope, contract protections, or management burden differs. Best Value
Choose the delivery model as well as the price
Staff augmentation is most useful when you need an individual to work within your team and can provide direction and oversight. It is not automatically the best value if your organization lacks a technical lead or needs a guaranteed result.
- Staff augmentation: The client directs an embedded individual and remains responsible for priorities and day-to-day work.
- Consulting: The provider supplies advice or expertise; this does not necessarily include operating the function.
- Managed services: The provider operates a function against agreed service expectations.
- Project outsourcing: The engagement is organized around a defined deliverable rather than simply supplying an individual’s time.
Compare these models on responsibility and outcome as well as price. A cheaper hourly resource can still be the wrong choice if you need the provider to own delivery.
