Its chips handle computing, networking, data transfer, memory, and storage inside systems built by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs). Those systems ultimately serve cloud providers, businesses, telecom carriers, government organizations, and consumers. Data centers accounted for 74% of Marvell’s fiscal 2026 revenue, making them the company’s largest market.
What Marvell makes
Marvell is a fabless semiconductor company: it designs chips and related technologies, then sells them for integration into other companies’ equipment. Its portfolio combines standard products with custom silicon developed around a particular customer’s requirements. The company describes its business as serving “data infrastructure semiconductor solutions, spanning the data center core to network edge” in its fiscal 2026 Form 10-K.

These products are infrastructure building blocks. A Marvell chip may process network traffic, connect a server to storage, move data between chips, or enable high-speed optical links. The finished server, switch, storage array, or gateway is generally designed and sold by another company. In other words, Marvell participates in the component and technology supply chain; it is not usually the brand on the complete system that a business or consumer buys.

Custom silicon and compute
Marvell designs application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for individual customer requirements. Custom projects can address AI and data-center computing, networking, storage, carrier infrastructure, aerospace, and defense applications. Rather than being general-purpose consumer processors, these chips are designed to perform defined functions in a customer’s system. Marvell’s portfolio includes co-designed AI accelerators, memory-related products, scale-up fabrics, security functions, and co-processors.
Custom silicon lets a customer tailor a chip to a specific workload or infrastructure plan. The trade-off for readers to understand is that these products are not interchangeable retail parts: they are developed around requirements supplied by a system customer. Marvell also sells standard and optimized products, so its business is not limited to custom projects.
The company also sells OCTEON data processing units and multi-core infrastructure processors. These can handle tasks such as network, security, storage, and application processing. In March 2026, Marvell and NVIDIA announced a collaboration involving custom XPUs and networking compatible with NVIDIA NVLink Fusion for customers building semi-custom AI infrastructure within NVIDIA’s ecosystem. That announcement identifies a specific collaboration; it does not establish a comprehensive list of Marvell’s customers.
Networking and data movement
Marvell’s networking products include Ethernet controllers, adapters, switches, physical-layer devices (PHYs), transceivers, and processors. They are used in equipment ranging from data-center and enterprise switches to carrier networks and edge systems. Ethernet controllers and adapters help servers communicate over networks; switches direct traffic among connected devices; PHYs and transceivers support the electrical or optical signaling that carries data.
At the edge, Marvell identifies products for access, aggregation, and industrial switching, along with high-speed PHYs and connectivity for edge compute and security systems. The function varies by product: some silicon helps connect or route traffic, while other components handle the physical signaling that makes a network link work. The end product is still the switch, router, or other system built by a manufacturer, not a finished device sold by Marvell to the network operator.

Its high-speed interconnect portfolio addresses links within and between data centers and across carrier networks. The fiscal 2026 filing lists pulse-amplitude-modulation (PAM) and coherent and coherent-lite digital signal processors, laser drivers, trans-impedance amplifiers, silicon photonics, co-packaged and linear pluggable optics chipsets, data-center interconnect products, active electrical cable DSPs, and PCIe retimers. These components help move data between systems or manage high-speed connections inside them. The list illustrates that “connectivity” includes both optical technologies and electrical links, rather than just Ethernet cables or network switches.
Memory and storage
Marvell’s memory and storage products include CXL-based memory expansion and pooling, Bravera solid-state-drive (SSD) controllers, hard-disk-drive controllers and preamplifiers, Fibre Channel adapters and controllers, and storage accelerators. These components manage or optimize how servers and storage systems access data; they are not, by themselves, complete storage products.
Recommended Free Tools
For example, an SSD controller is a component within a storage device, while a Fibre Channel adapter or controller helps connect systems to storage over that technology. CXL products address memory expansion and pooling in server environments. These are infrastructure functions aimed primarily at the makers and operators of equipment, not consumer-facing standalone products.
Recent portfolio additions
Marvell completed its acquisition of Celestial AI on February 2, 2026. Celestial AI’s Photonic Fabric technology is aimed at next-generation scale-up interconnect. Marvell completed its acquisition of XConn on February 10, 2026; XConn provides PCIe and CXL switching silicon. These additions expand the portfolio in optical interconnect and switching, respectively. The acquisitions do not change the central distinction: Marvell develops semiconductor technologies that are incorporated into systems made by other companies.
Marvell’s fiscal 2027 second-quarter filing, for the quarter ended August 1, 2026, discusses these acquisitions and ongoing product activities. The company also reported data-center demand across electro-optics, custom silicon, storage, and switching, showing that the market contribution is not confined to a single type of chip.

Who buys Marvell chips?
Marvell identifies OEMs, ODMs, and distributors as its target customers. OEMs design and sell equipment under their own brands; ODMs design and manufacture systems for other companies. A distributor can sell components onward to manufacturers. In many cases, the direct buyer is therefore a system or device maker, while the eventual user is a cloud operator, business, carrier, government organization, or consumer.
That distinction matters: a company whose product contains a Marvell component is not necessarily a direct Marvell customer. Marvell’s custom silicon is designed to customer specifications, and its portfolio materials describe co-design aimed at the workload and infrastructure strategy of a single hyperscaler. Public filings do not provide a comprehensive current ranking of its largest direct customers. A named company or product should therefore not be treated as proof of a direct purchase relationship unless the relationship is specifically disclosed.
Where customers use the chips
- Cloud and data-center equipment: AI systems, servers, Ethernet switches, network-attached storage, storage systems, and data-center interconnect.
- Enterprise systems: Routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, load balancers, and workstations.
- Carrier networks: Broadband access equipment, optical transport systems, routers, and wireless radio access network (RAN) systems.
- Consumer and home products: Broadband gateways, gaming consoles, home storage, PCs, printers, and set-top boxes.
This is a range of end products that may incorporate Marvell components, not a claim that Marvell builds or sells each listed system. The same distinction applies across markets: a household may use a broadband gateway containing a chip, but the gateway’s maker or distributor is the relevant part of the supply chain for the finished product.
The named NVIDIA collaboration is one current example of a partnership around custom compute and scale-up networking. Marvell and NVIDIA announced on March 31, 2026, that the work would include custom XPUs and NVLink Fusion-compatible networking for customers building semi-custom AI infrastructure. Marvell CEO Matt Murphy said the expanded partnership reflects the importance of high-speed connectivity, optical interconnect, and accelerated infrastructure in scaling AI. The announcement describes the collaboration’s scope, not a broader roster of customers.

| Fiscal 2026 end market | Revenue | Share of total |
|---|---|---|
| Data center | $6,100.3 million | 74% |
| Communications and other | $2,094.3 million | 26% |
| Total net revenue | $8,194.6 million | 100% |
Marvell attributed fiscal 2026 data-center growth to AI-related demand for custom products and electro-optics. The more recent second quarter of fiscal 2027, which ended August 1, 2026, brought revenue of $2.7 billion, up 37% year over year, and data-center sales growth of 46% year over year. Marvell attributed demand to a range of products, including electro-optics, custom silicon, storage, and switching. These are quarterly results, not full-year figures, and should not be added to the fiscal 2026 annual total.
The 74% figure is an end-market revenue share, not a statement that 74% of Marvell’s chips are AI accelerators or that all its sales go to cloud companies. The remaining 26% is reported as “communications and other,” which includes several markets and uses described above. End-market classifications are based on factors such as customer type, product function, and Marvell’s knowledge of the end application. The company cautions that this attribution is inherently subjective and may change, so the percentages describe its reported fiscal-year categorization rather than a fixed measure of every chip’s eventual use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What Marvell no longer makes
Marvell completed the sale of its automotive Ethernet business to Infineon on August 14, 2025. The fiscal 2026 filing identifies automotive Ethernet applications such as advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous vehicles, and in-vehicle networking as divested. They should not be presented as current Marvell-owned automotive Ethernet products. This sale does not imply that every automotive or industrial application in Marvell’s broader portfolio disappeared; the distinction is specifically about the divested Ethernet business.
How to understand Marvell’s role in a finished product
- Start with the system, not the chip brand. Identify the finished product—for example, a server, switch, storage system, or broadband gateway.
- Separate the buyer from the user. The equipment maker may purchase the component, while a cloud provider, carrier, business, or household uses the finished system.
- Identify the chip’s function. A Marvell component may process data, connect devices, manage storage, or carry signals over an optical or electrical link.
- Check whether the relationship is named. A component’s presence in a product does not by itself prove who bought it directly. Treat named partnerships as specific examples, not as a complete customer list.
This distinction also helps when comparing chip suppliers: consider whether a company emphasizes custom co-designed silicon or standard merchant products, how much of its business serves data centers versus communications and other markets, and whether it focuses on compute, switching, storage, or interconnect. Another useful question is whether it sells chips to system makers or sells finished devices to end users. Marvell sells both standard and optimized products, but it sells semiconductor components rather than the finished devices used by end customers.
There is no single retail price or consumer specification that captures Marvell’s portfolio: it spans different products sold into business-to-business supply chains, and Marvell’s public filings do not provide a consumer product recommendation or named retail merchant. A generic router or cable may contain or work with semiconductor components, but that would not be a meaningful substitute for explaining Marvell’s infrastructure business.

Marvell develops custom ASICs and other silicon for AI and data-center applications, including co-designed accelerators and related infrastructure products. It also announced a collaboration with NVIDIA involving custom XPUs and NVLink Fusion-compatible networking for semi-custom AI infrastructure.
How much of Marvell’s revenue comes from data centers?
Data centers represented $6,100.3 million, or 74%, of Marvell’s fiscal 2026 revenue of $8,194.6 million. Fiscal 2026 ended January 31, 2026. In the second quarter of fiscal 2027, data-center sales grew 46% year over year; that is a quarterly growth figure, not an annual revenue share.
Does Marvell still make automotive Ethernet products?
Marvell sold its automotive Ethernet business to Infineon on August 14, 2025. Its fiscal 2026 filing identifies ADAS, autonomous-vehicle, and in-vehicle networking applications as part of the divested business, so these should not be described as current Marvell-owned automotive Ethernet products.
The Bottom Line
Marvell makes semiconductor building blocks for data infrastructure, including custom compute, networking, interconnect, memory, and storage products. OEMs, ODMs, and distributors are the direct customer types; the finished systems they help create serve data centers, carriers, enterprises, and consumer markets. Data centers accounted for 74% of fiscal 2026 revenue, but Marvell sells components—not complete devices—and public filings do not establish a full list of its direct customers.
