There is no dependable flat monthly price for running every AI-built app. The total depends on what the builder includes, whether you need separate hosting and a backend, how much traffic and data you handle, how often the app uses AI models, and the human work needed to keep it reliable. Treat the bill as a stack of costs, not as the price of the AI builder subscription alone.
What you may pay for after building the app
An AI builder subscription may cover creation credits, deployment, hosting, or app features—but those bundles vary. Before launch, check which services remain included in production, what usage limits apply, and what gets billed separately. Lovable, for example, says hosting for most small or new apps is generally covered by its included grant; apps with significant traffic or size may incur extra charges against the credit balance. That is a vendor-specific arrangement, not a guarantee that hosting every AI-built app is free. Check Lovable’s current pricing and FAQ.

Depending on the app, the operating budget may include:
- Builder subscription and build-credit overages: Ongoing access to the builder and any charges for using more credits than the plan includes.
- Frontend hosting and deployment: The service that serves the app to users, if it is not bundled with the builder.
- Backend and database: Compute, storage, bandwidth or data egress, and any authentication, file, or function usage outside included allowances.
- AI inference: Model API charges when your live app sends prompts to an AI service. These may be separate from the builder plan.
- Other services: A domain, email, payments, analytics, monitoring, or other third-party tools the app actually uses.
- Human maintenance: Time spent reviewing generated changes, fixing defects, updating dependencies and integrations, testing, responding to incidents, and maintaining data and security practices.
This is a checklist, not a claim that every app needs every item. A static app with no database or model calls has a different cost profile from a customer-facing app with accounts, stored data, and frequent AI requests.

How to estimate the monthly bill
Start with the services your app actually uses, then check each provider’s current plan, included quota, billing unit, and overage rules. A useful estimate needs expected traffic and requests, storage and bandwidth needs, the model and token use per request, and your backup and availability requirements. Without those inputs, a single monthly figure would be guesswork; the official provider information cited here does not establish a representative whole-app total or a general maintenance-hours estimate.
- List the production stack: Record the builder, host, backend or database, model API, and any other paid services. Mark what the builder bundles after launch.
- Estimate usage: For each metered service, estimate monthly visits, requests, stored data, bandwidth, and—where applicable—model input, cached input, and output tokens.
- Apply the actual billing rules: Add fixed plan fees and usage beyond included allowances. Check whether spending can be monitored or capped and what happens when a quota is exceeded.
- Add operational requirements: Review backup retention, logs, recovery options, and support. Include the time or contractor spend your team expects for testing, updates, security, and incidents, without assuming a standard labor rate.
- Recheck before launch and periodically afterward: Pricing, quotas, and bundles change. This U.S.-dollar snapshot is based on official pages reviewed on October 4, 2026, and is not a quote.
What official provider prices do—and do not—tell you
The examples below show how separate parts of an app’s bill can work. They are not directly comparable plans, and none is a complete monthly price for an AI-built app.

| Service example | Published detail | What to take from it |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase backend | Its official pricing page lists Pro at $25/month. The displayed plan includes $10/month in compute credits and daily backups with seven-day retention; compute can be scaled separately. The page was reviewed October 4, 2026. | This is a backend example, not a whole-app quote. Compute and other resource use can change the bill. See Supabase pricing. |
| Lovable hosting | Lovable says hosting for most small or new apps is generally covered by its included grant; apps with significant traffic or size may incur additional costs covered through the credit balance. | Bundled hosting depends on the builder and its terms. Do not assume the same grant applies to another service or app. See Lovable pricing and FAQ. |
| OpenAI API | Pricing is model-specific and separates input, cached-input, and output token rates. Rates vary by model and pricing mode; consult the live page for applicable figures. | Estimate from the model your app uses, expected request volume, and actual prompt and response sizes. Do not assume the builder subscription pays for production API calls. See OpenAI API pricing. |
| Vercel hosting | The official pricing page shows usage components such as build minutes and AI token requests, as well as team-seat charges; applicability depends on plan and setup. | Look beyond the headline plan price to the usage meters and team costs that apply to your app. See Vercel pricing. |
How to compare a bundled builder with a separate stack
A low headline subscription can still leave important production services outside the plan. When comparing options, focus on what the app will need to operate, not just what it costs to generate code.

- How is usage measured? A provider may bill by fixed plan, credits, tokens, requests, compute, storage, bandwidth, seats, or a combination.
- What happens at the limit? Check overage charges, service behavior when quotas run out, and available spend monitoring or controls.
- What happens if something goes wrong? Compare backup retention, logs, recovery options, and support rather than assuming all plans provide the same coverage.
- Can you move the app? Check code and data export options, then consider the operational setup required to run them elsewhere.
- Who handles ongoing work? Include the technical effort needed to maintain the chosen stack.
Lovable’s builder comparison describes differences in stack, hosting, export, and billing units, and notes that direct price comparisons can be difficult when usage is metered differently. It is a vendor-authored comparison, so verify current features and terms on each provider’s own pricing pages. Read Lovable’s builder comparisons.

What maintenance involves
AI-generated code does not create an automatic maintenance surcharge. Maintenance is the work required to keep the finished app reliable, secure, compatible, and affordable. The amount depends on the app and the changes it receives; the provider information cited here does not establish a universal monthly labor figure.
- Review generated code changes before deploying them.
- Test the important user flows after app, dependency, or integration updates.
- Monitor hosting, backend, and model usage so unexpected growth is visible.
- Check that backup and recovery arrangements meet your needs.
- Keep API keys and other secrets out of source code and public repositories.
OpenAI’s official API production guidance says: “Avoid exposing the API keys in your code or in public repositories; instead, store them in a secure location.” It also points to environment variables or secret management as secure storage approaches. Read OpenAI’s production best practices.

Why there is no honest universal monthly total
Provider prices show individual pieces of the bill, but they do not establish an average cost for operating an AI-built app or a general maintenance cost. A meaningful estimate requires a defined app and stack: its host and backend, expected requests and data, model choice and token use, and desired backup and availability. Until those are known, use the cost categories and provider meters above rather than relying on an unsupported market-wide estimate.
