iOS 27 supports iPhone 11 and newer models, plus iPhone SE (2nd generation) and newer. That lets older iPhones install the update, but it does not give them every iOS 27 feature: Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, an iPhone 16 model or later, or iPhone Air.
Which iPhones are compatible with iOS 27?
Apple’s compatibility guide lists these iPhone models for iOS 27:

The installation threshold is iPhone 11 or iPhone SE (2nd generation). Do not assume an unlisted model qualifies based on its age or name. See Apple’s iOS 27 compatibility guide for the official list.

Yes. iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max are on Apple’s iOS 27 compatibility list. They can receive the operating-system update, but they do not meet Apple’s published hardware requirements for Apple Intelligence. The same distinction applies to other compatible iPhones below the Apple Intelligence cutoff.

Which iOS 27 features require newer hardware?
Apple Intelligence is the key hardware-gated feature set. Apple’s requirements begin with iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and include iPhone 16 models and later and iPhone Air. That means the standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus can run iOS 27 but are not on the stated Apple Intelligence list.
Apple describes iOS 27 capabilities powered by Apple Intelligence such as AI features for Siri, Spatial Reframing and enhanced Clean Up in Photos, Image Playground, and features in other apps. These examples should be treated as part of the newer-hardware-gated set; Apple does not establish that each feature has identical availability across every device, region, or language. Apple also says features and apps may vary by iPhone model, region, language, and carrier. Its requirements page notes supported-language and regional conditions, and some Apple Intelligence features have usage limits. Hardware eligibility alone is therefore not a guarantee that every capability will be available to every user.

How to check your iPhone and find the offered update
- Open Settings > General > About and identify your iPhone model.
- Open Settings > General > Software Update to see the update offered for your device.
- Back up your iPhone before updating, as Apple advises in its download and update guide.
The Software Update screen is the practical check for the update offered to your own phone; the model list establishes general compatibility.

How to interpret Apple’s iOS 27 speed claims
Apple’s iOS 27 feature page publishes comparisons claiming app launches are up to 30% faster, new photos load in the Photos library up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster. These are Apple’s claims, not independent test results. The cited passage does not specify the test configuration or show that every compatible iPhone will achieve the maximum improvement.

Not just to install iOS 27 if your iPhone is on Apple’s compatibility list. An iPhone 11 or supported iPhone SE can receive the operating-system update even though it lacks Apple Intelligence. Consider a newer model if access to Apple Intelligence is important to you, and check the specific model’s eligibility along with language and regional support before deciding.
