Can you trade in your old phone for a Google Pixel?
Google Store offers trade-ins in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Eligibility depends on the country, the Pixel you select, and the old phone’s make, model, storage, and condition. The eligible-device list appears after you choose a new device and is refreshed every 30 days, according to Google’s eligibility guidance.

If your old phone’s manufacturer, model, or storage option does not appear in the checkout selector, Google says it is not eligible for that transaction. The list and value can vary by market and purchase, so an offer shown for one Pixel or country should not be assumed to apply to another.

How to add a trade-in to a Pixel purchase
- Choose your Pixel on Google Store. Select the model and configuration you intend to buy.
- Request a trade-in estimate during checkout. Select the old phone’s actual manufacturer, model, storage, and condition. Google says you can add a trade-in only during checkout, not after the purchase, and you cannot change the submitted manufacturer or model once the order is placed. - Review how the offer will be applied. Depending on eligibility and the trade-in option, the credit may be applied at checkout or after Google receives and inspects the phone.
- Follow the order email’s preparation and shipping instructions. Check the condition questions against your device and send it by the deadline in your order details.
- Check the final result after inspection. Google determines the final value after receiving the device. Review the option for handling a changed value before you commit.
How much is your old phone worth?
There is no reliable single amount for an unspecified phone. Google says its estimate depends on the information you submit, the current market value, and possibly promotional value; inspection can change the final credit. Use the estimate displayed for your exact phone and Pixel in checkout, rather than relying on a model-level figure found elsewhere. Google explains the estimate in its trade-in value guidance.

To judge the actual saving, compare the Pixel’s net cost after the final trade-in credit—not just the estimated credit—with the amount you would pay without trading in. If you are also considering selling the phone or taking another offer, compare the exact net amounts and terms available in your market; the Google estimate alone does not establish which option pays more.
What happens to the credit, and when?
With a standard trade-in, Google generally issues credit to the payment method after inspection. If you qualify for instant trade-in, the estimated amount is applied as a checkout discount first, and you send the old phone afterward. In the United States, Google’s instructions give 30 days to ship an instant-trade-in device; missing that deadline or having the device valued below the estimate may result in a charge. For US orders, Google says submitted devices are usually checked within five business days after receipt, and a credit-card refund may take up to 14 business days to appear. These are process estimates, not guaranteed dates. Google’s trade-in guidance also says an estimate or offer generally expires 30 days after the new device is received; follow the deadline and instructions in your own order.

Answer the checkout condition questions accurately. Power and charging problems, screen or body damage, activation lock, a model mismatch, late shipment, or a device reported lost or stolen can affect eligibility or value. Google’s condition guidance says, “Your device’s condition can change the trade-in value.” Read Google’s condition requirements and use the preparation instructions sent with your order.

Do not mail a phone with a damaged or swollen battery. If inspection changes the value, the outcome depends on the trade-in path and the choice you made about accepting a revised amount. Google’s US instructions describe possible charges or a device return depending on the circumstances; check the terms for your country and order before sending the phone.

- Confirm that trade-in is available in your country and that your exact make, model, and storage appear for the Pixel you selected.
- Enter the phone’s details and condition carefully; the submitted manufacturer and model cannot be changed after ordering.
- Decide whether the checkout discount or post-inspection credit suits your situation, if both options are offered.
- Read what happens if inspection lowers the value, including whether a charge or return may apply.
- Save the order email and follow its shipping deadline, packing, and device-preparation instructions.
