What does Align Technology make?
Align Technology’s portfolio connects orthodontic treatment with digital scanning and dental design. Its main offerings are Invisalign, iTero and exocad, rather than competing versions of the same product. Align describes these products in its FY2025 results.

What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a prescribed orthodontic treatment system that uses a sequence of custom-made clear aligners. Align says its system combines virtual modeling software, rapid manufacturing and mass customization with its aligner material and treatment-planning features. Components include SmartTrack material, SmartStage movement sequencing, and SmartForce attachments and features. See Align’s Invisalign System overview.
The aligners are not simply an off-the-shelf product: a trained dental professional assesses the patient and prescribes treatment. The treating doctor sets the price based on the plan, so Align does not provide one universal patient price in the cited product information. For an individual estimate, a patient needs an assessment from a participating provider.

What is iTero, and how does it relate to Invisalign?
iTero is Align’s professional intraoral scanner platform. A scanner captures digital images of the teeth and mouth for use in dental workflows. For clear-aligner case submissions, Align accepts physical impressions, iTero scans and scans from certain third-party scanners covered by interoperability arrangements; an iTero scanner is therefore not the only possible route for submitting a digital case. Align’s October 29, 2025 announcement described iTero Digital Solutions as scanners paired with integrated software. It introduced the Align Oral Health Suite for patient imagery and shareable oral-health reports, Invisalign Outcome Simulator Pro with Smile Video, and an expanded iTero Design Suite powered by exocad. Align said the design suite supports chairside design of models, bite splints and prosthetics and works with a broader range of 3D printers and mills. Those are descriptions in the company’s product announcement; its reported conversion results should be understood as company claims, not independent evidence of clinical effectiveness.

What does exocad do?
exocad is Align’s CAD/CAM software offering for dental design and fabrication workflows. In practical terms, it is professional software used to design dental products and support their manufacture with compatible equipment. The iTero Design Suite’s connection to exocad extends the digital workflow from capturing a scan toward designing items such as models, bite splints and prosthetics. These are practice- and laboratory-oriented tools, not consumer software or a direct-to-patient purchase.
How large is Align Technology?
In its FY2025 results, Align reported $4.0 billion in total revenue for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2025: $3.2 billion from clear aligners and $789.6 million from systems and services. It also reported 2.6 million clear-aligner cases during that fiscal year. Separately, the company said it had served over 22 million cumulative Invisalign patients during 2025; that is a cumulative milestone, not the number treated in 2025 alone.

Align also reported milestones during 2025 of over 121,000 active iTero scanner units, over 70,000 exocad CAD/CAM licenses and over 295,000 active Invisalign-trained doctors. These figures are company-reported; they describe different measures and should not be read as independent adoption estimates. The company’s homepage displays a rolling patient figure without a clear measurement date, so it is not directly comparable to the dated FY2025 figures.

Availability depends on the product and market. Align’s product page says its palatal expander system received U.S. FDA 510(k) clearance, and separately says its mandibular-advancement clear-aligner system became commercially available in the U.S. and Canada in April 2025. Those statements do not establish availability in every country.

On April 30, 2026, Align announced previews of developments presented around the AAO Annual Session, including a 3D-printed Invisalign Specifix attachment system, integrated buttons, a palatal expander with hooks, custom trim lines in ClinCheck and iTero Lumina scanning advances. A preview announcement does not by itself show that each item is commercially available worldwide. Align’s AAO 2026 announcement is the appropriate dated reference for what was presented.

Which Align product is relevant to you?
- If you are considering tooth straightening: ask an Invisalign-trained dental professional whether the treatment suits your needs, how the plan will be monitored and what the provider will charge.
- If you run a dental practice: evaluate iTero by the scanning and software workflows you need, interoperability, the specific equipment configuration and availability in your market.
- If you design or fabricate dental products: evaluate exocad and related design tools against your workflow, equipment compatibility and the service or reseller arrangements available to you.
