To set deposit and time limits, sign in to your sportsbook and open its Responsible Gambling, Safer Gambling, or account-control settings. Choose a deposit cap and a session-time limit, then check the confirmation for when each takes effect, what it covers, and when its period resets. Labels and rules vary by sportsbook and location, so use the terms shown in your own account.
Before you choose a limit, check what it measures
A deposit limit should cap money paid into the account—not the amount wagered, losses, or deposits minus withdrawals. Other controls may limit wagers, losses, or time spent in a session. These are different measures; read the setting description rather than assuming every “limit” blocks the same activity.

For UK-regulated online operators, the Gambling Commission says that from 30 June 2026 a control may be called a “deposit limit” only when it is based on the amount a customer pays into the account over a set duration. Other types of limits may still be offered under distinct terms. The Commission’s RTS 12 financial-limits guidance specifies gross-deposit periods of 24 hours, seven days, and one month, and says the most restrictive simultaneous limit must apply. These requirements are UK-specific, not universal sportsbook rules.
How to set the controls
- Sign in and locate the account controls. Look for “Responsible Gambling,” “Safer Gambling,” “Limit Your Account,” or a similar option. For example, Fanatics calls its page “Responsible Gaming,” while bet365 Michigan uses “Limit Your Account.”
- Set a deposit cap and period. Choose an amount you can afford to deposit and the period offered. Check whether the period is a calendar day, week, or month, or whether it runs on another reset schedule. A deposit cap is not the same as a cap on wagers or losses.
- Set a time control. Choose a session-time limit or equivalent option. Read what happens at the limit: it may end access, log you out, or provide only a reminder. Do not assume a time control blocks activity unless the account explains that it does.
- Review the confirmation before leaving settings. Check the limit amount, period and reset point, whether it applies to one sportsbook or a wider operator account, and the exact time it becomes active. Also check how to lower or raise it. UK RTS 12 guidance says a request should be implemented as soon as practicable and the customer told when it takes effect.
What operator examples show—and what they do not
These examples illustrate why it is important to read the controls in your own account. They are not instructions that apply to every sportsbook or jurisdiction.

When limits change, check the waiting period
Lowering a cap and raising it may have different effects. In the UK, RTS 12 specifies a standard 24-hour cooling-off period before an increase takes effect. Fanatics says reductions are immediate, while an increase waits until the existing limit period has ended. Other operators may set different rules, so rely on the confirmation and terms displayed in your account rather than assuming a change is immediate.

A deposit or time limit is an account control, not a guarantee that gambling is safe or a substitute for specialist help.
