“AI data parameter” has no single standard definition in the sources reviewed. It may mean an input field or feature supplied to an AI system, or it may refer—less precisely—to a model parameter: an internal value that affects the model’s output. Those are different things, so the surrounding context matters.
What is an AI data parameter?
The phrase is ambiguous rather than established technical vocabulary. In ordinary usage, someone might call a data field sent to an AI system a “data parameter.” In machine learning, however, model parameter has a more specific meaning: a value or component within a model that influences its behavior or output.

When the distinction matters, clarify whether you mean data being supplied to the system or values inside the model.

How input data differs from model parameters
| Term | Where it belongs | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Input data or feature | Supplied to a model for training or processing | Describes the example or information the system is given |
| Model parameter | Within the model | Affects how the model responds to inputs |
| Model weight | Within the model | A numerical model parameter that helps determine outputs |
A technical patent publication, WO2025072550A1, illustrates the distinction by describing training, validation, and reference data separately from model parameters and operations such as feature extraction, labeling, scaling, and selection. It is an example of technical usage, not a universal terminology standard.

What is a model parameter?
The U.S. Federal Register publication of Executive Order 14110 defines a model weight as “a numerical parameter within an AI model that helps determine the model’s outputs in response to inputs.” A weight is therefore one kind of model parameter—not another name for the input dataset.
The same Federal Register document defines machine learning as “a set of techniques that can be used to train AI algorithms to improve performance at a task based on data.” Data is used in training, while model parameters belong to the model. The two are related, but they play different roles.

Neither the types nor the number of parameters can be assumed to be the same across all AI systems. The definitions do not establish one universal inventory or count.

How to interpret the phrase in context
- If it refers to a column, value, or feature provided to an AI tool, read it as an input field or feature.
- If it refers to a value inside a trained model that affects its response, the intended term is likely “model parameter”; a weight is one example.
- If a particular product or technical document uses “parameter,” check that system’s documentation for the exact fields or parameter types it means.
