Samsung says Heavy alone means the leak sensor has detected moisture on models without Express 60; on models with Express 60, it means there is too much water. Some Waterwall models without Express 60 may also blink Heavy if the water reflector is blocked. Check your model and the full light pattern before deciding what to do.
First, identify the model and the exact light pattern
Find the dishwasher’s full model number and note your country or market. Samsung’s light codes can vary by model, so compare the pattern with the manual or support information for that specific unit. A blinking Heavy indicator is not the same as simply selecting the Heavy cycle.

Also check whether Heavy is the only blinking light. Samsung assigns different meanings to different combinations; if other indicators are blinking, use the instructions for that exact combination rather than the Heavy-only explanation. Samsung’s US blinking-light guide explains that patterns can vary by model.
What a blinking Heavy light can mean
For Heavy by itself, Samsung’s US guidance distinguishes models by whether they have an Express 60 cycle. Samsung Canada adds a possible cause for some Waterwall models without Express 60.

| Model or signal | Samsung’s stated interpretation |
|---|---|
| Heavy alone; no Express 60 cycle | The leak sensor detects moisture. Samsung US guidance. |
| Heavy alone; Express 60 cycle present | Too much water in the dishwasher. Samsung US guidance. |
| Heavy alone; Waterwall model without Express 60 | A moisture-detecting leak sensor, or a blocked water reflector. Samsung Canada guidance. |
| Heavy and one or more other lights blinking | Check the model-specific meaning for the complete combination; Heavy alone does not identify it. |
These are model-dependent signal meanings, not proof that a particular component has failed. Samsung’s guidance does not prescribe a universal replacement part for a blinking Heavy light.

If your model’s Heavy-only pattern points to moisture detection, check for visible water around or beneath the dishwasher. If you recently moved the appliance and there is no visible leak, Samsung Canada notes that splash water near the sensor may need time to dry.
- Look for a leak. If water is visibly escaping, stop using the dishwasher and follow the leak instructions for your model.
- Consider the Waterwall reflector. On a Waterwall model, Samsung Canada lists a blocked water reflector as another possible cause.
- Check a recent garbage-disposal installation. If the dishwasher was connected to a disposal, verify that the dishwasher inlet cap was removed.
- Check for detergent spills or overfilling. Keep detergent in the dispenser and avoid filling it beyond its intended amount.
Samsung Canada’s Heavy-light troubleshooting guidance covers these checks. They are initial checks, not a substitute for diagnosing a persistent error.
If the pattern does not clear
Consult the manual for your exact model and contact Samsung support or service if the warning continues. Avoid repeatedly resetting the dishwasher instead of addressing the underlying condition: Samsung Canada warns that an unresolved cause may recur or damage the appliance.
Some Samsung dishwashers show information codes on a digital display; models without a display may communicate through blinking lights. If your display shows a code—or the light pattern is not covered by the general guidance—look up that code or pattern in the model-specific manual. Samsung’s information-code guide explains the distinction.
