Depending on the model, a Casio Pro Trek measures compass direction, barometric pressure and temperature; it can also calculate relative altitude from pressure. Some models add an accelerometer that counts steps. The exact sensors, ranges and accuracy depend on the watch’s model and module, so “Triple Sensor” is not a guarantee of identical specifications across the Pro Trek range.
What does the Triple Sensor measure?
Casio describes its Triple Sensor as three miniature sensors for measuring “directions, barometric pressure / altitude, and temperature.” In practical terms, these functions are a digital compass, a pressure sensor used for barometer readings and calculated altitude, and a thermometer. The altitude function is derived from pressure; it is not a separate sensor that directly detects elevation. Casio’s Triple Sensor overview

The wording matters when you are deciding what a watch can tell you. The compass senses magnetic direction, the barometer reports pressure, and the thermometer reports temperature at the watch. The altitude display is a calculation based on pressure readings. So a Triple Sensor gives you several outdoor-oriented measurements, but it does not mean the watch directly measures every quantity shown on its screen.

The compass uses a magnetic sensor to determine direction, including north and a bearing angle. It can help with orientation, but nearby magnets, metal objects, electrical appliances and other magnetic sources can interfere with readings. Casio recommends carrying another compass to confirm readings on serious treks or mountain climbs. Casio operation guides

For a bearing that matters, treat the digital compass as a reference rather than assuming that a displayed direction is automatically reliable in every setting. Magnetic interference can affect readings, so check your surroundings and verify important bearings with a separate compass. Casio’s recommendation to carry another compass is especially relevant for serious trekking and mountain climbing; a Pro Trek’s compass should not be the only direction-finding tool you rely on for those activities.
Barometric pressure
The barometer measures local atmospheric pressure. On supported models, the watch can display the pressure and its trend, sometimes with a graph or pressure-change indicator. A changing pressure trend may alert you to changing weather conditions, but the watch is not a dedicated weather instrument and a pressure reading alone is not a forecast.
In other words, the sensor reports pressure, while a trend display helps you notice how that measurement is changing. This can be useful context outdoors, but it is not the same as a dedicated weather service or a guaranteed prediction of what conditions will do next. Whether a particular Pro Trek displays a graph or a pressure-change indication is model-dependent, so consult the exact watch’s guide rather than assuming that every barometer function looks or behaves the same way.

The altimeter function estimates relative altitude from pressure readings. Because weather can change pressure even when you have not moved, the displayed altitude may drift while the watch remains in one place. For a more useful reading, calibrate the watch against a known local elevation when accuracy matters. Casio operation guides
This pressure-based method explains both the usefulness and the limitation of the altimeter. It can show a change in estimated altitude as you move, but pressure also responds to changing weather. A change on the display therefore does not always mean that you have climbed or descended. When accuracy matters, use a known local elevation as a calibration reference and follow the procedure for the specific module. Calibration can make the estimate more useful; it does not turn the watch into a direct elevation sensor.
Casio’s module 5602 specifications provide one concrete example of what “relative altitude” means in a manual: that module lists a measuring range from −700 to 10,000 m and stated altimeter accuracy within ±75 m. Those figures belong to module 5602 only. They are not a promise of the same range or accuracy for every Pro Trek, and the pressure-related drift caveat still matters when interpreting an altitude reading.

Temperature
The thermometer reports temperature at the watch. The case and heat from your wrist can affect the reading, so follow the measurement procedure and caveats in the operation guide for your specific module rather than treating a wrist-worn reading as an ambient-air measurement.

The module’s operation guide provides model-specific instructions and caveats; do not assume that a temperature shown on the wrist is identical to the ambient temperature.
Do all Pro Trek watches have the same sensors?
No. Pro Trek features vary by model and module. Casio’s US overview says many Pro Trek watches include an accelerometer for step counting, but that does not mean every model has one. Check the exact model’s specifications and module number before assuming it has a particular sensor, graph, logging function or measurement range. Casio US Pro Trek overview
The core Triple Sensor description is a useful starting point, not a complete specification for each watch in the product family. A particular model may have additional functions such as step counting, and supported models may differ in whether they show pressure trends, graphs or other details. Even when two watches carry the Triple Sensor label, that label alone does not tell you that their numerical limits, accuracy statements, calibration procedures, logging or displays are identical.
For instance, Casio’s US overview names the PRG340 series and identifies compass, altimeter, barometer and thermometer features. It is a model-family example of those outdoor functions, not evidence that every Pro Trek shares the same specifications. Check the exact PRG340 model and its documentation for details before relying on a specific feature or figure. If you are considering a purchase, a search phrase such as “Casio Pro Trek PRG340 watch” can help locate that series, but confirm the current product listing and features; no current stock, prices or affiliate availability were established.
When comparing two watches, first confirm their modules and sensor feature sets; then compare measurement ranges and stated accuracy; finally check practical details such as calibration, graphs, logging and display options. A shared Triple Sensor label alone does not establish that two models have identical capabilities. Casio US Pro Trek overview

A useful comparison should therefore be specific rather than based only on family branding. Make a short checklist for each candidate:
- Module and sensors: identify the module and confirm which functions it lists, including whether step counting is included.
- Limits and stated accuracy: compare the documented compass, pressure, altitude and temperature ranges and accuracy statements for those modules.
- How information is presented: check for any pressure graph or change indication, logging, display options and the calibration guidance in the relevant manual.
These details answer different questions. A measurement range tells you the limits Casio lists for that function; an accuracy statement describes the stated accuracy for that module; display and logging features tell you how the watch presents or records information. Do not transfer a figure from one module’s manual to another watch simply because both are called Pro Trek or use the Triple Sensor name.
Example: what module 5602 specifies
The following figures are Casio’s specifications for module 5602 only, not universal Pro Trek limits. Casio’s online specification page does not state a publication year; these figures were accessed in 2026. Casio module 5602 specifications

| Function | Module 5602 specification |
|---|---|
| Compass | Measurement range: 0°–359°; stated direction-sensor accuracy: within ±10° |
| Barometer | Measurement range: 260–1,100 hPa; stated pressure-sensor accuracy: within ±3 hPa |
| Relative altimeter | Measuring range: −700 to 10,000 m; stated altimeter accuracy: within ±75 m |
| Temperature | Measuring range: −10.0°C to 60.0°C; display measurement unit: 0.1°C |
These limits describe the named module’s specifications; they should not be applied to other modules without checking their documentation.
The table also shows why “what do the sensors measure?” and “how precisely does this watch measure?” are separate questions. For module 5602, Casio lists a compass range in degrees and a stated direction-sensor accuracy, a pressure range in hectopascals and a stated pressure-sensor accuracy, and separate relative-altitude limits and accuracy. For temperature, the cited specification gives both a measuring range and a display measurement unit. These are module-specific figures, not guarantees that any other Pro Trek will display the same range or state the same accuracy.
A listed measurement range should not be confused with a promise that every reading will be exact, either. The operation guides describe measurement functions as intended for general reference, and the individual functions have practical limitations: magnetic interference for direction, weather-related pressure changes for altitude, and wrist or case heat for temperature. Read the module guide alongside the numbers, rather than using a specification table without its caveats.

How reliable are the readings?
Casio cautions that these are general-reference measurements, not readings from a special-purpose measuring instrument. In its module 5682 operation guide, the company says: “This watch is not a special-purpose measuring instrument. Measurement function readings are intended for general reference only.” For serious trekking or mountain climbing, Casio specifically advises carrying another compass to verify the digital compass. Casio module 5682 operation guide
This guidance applies to how you should use the measurement functions: they can provide outdoor information, but the watch is not presented as a specialist instrument. The main limitations are function-specific, not interchangeable. Compass readings can be affected by magnetic sources; altitude is calculated from pressure and can shift with weather; and temperature readings can be affected by the watch case and the wearer. A general-reference reading is most useful when you understand what it represents and when you check it against the right reference for the task.
- For compass use, move away from likely magnetic interference and confirm important bearings with a separate compass.
- For altitude, calibrate against a known elevation when needed and remember that weather-driven pressure changes can affect the result.
- For temperature, consult the module guide for the model’s measurement procedure and account for wrist and case heat.
- For any exact feature or accuracy claim, use the documentation for the watch’s module rather than generalizing from another Pro Trek.
How to check what your particular Pro Trek measures
- Find the watch’s model and module number on the watch or its documentation.
- Open the operation guide or specifications for that exact module through Casio’s support guides.
- Confirm which functions are listed: compass, barometer, altimeter, thermometer and, where applicable, step counting.
- Read the guide’s stated ranges, accuracy, calibration procedure and measurement caveats before relying on a number or comparing it with another watch.
Use the model number and module number together when checking a specification. The module documentation is where you can verify whether a particular watch has a given sensor function and what limits or caveats Casio lists for it. If a retailer description uses a broad phrase such as “Triple Sensor,” check the manual rather than inferring that every feature or numerical specification from another Pro Trek applies.
For a comparison, repeat the same check for each watch: confirm the sensor set, record the documented ranges and accuracy, and compare the stated calibration, graph, logging and display features. That approach keeps the comparison tied to the watches you are actually considering. It also avoids treating the module 5602 example in this article as a family-wide spec sheet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Casio Pro Trek altimeter directly measure elevation?
No. It calculates relative altitude from barometric pressure. Because weather can change pressure even when the watch has not moved, the displayed altitude can drift; calibrate against a known local elevation when accuracy matters.
Does every Pro Trek have a compass and thermometer?
Features vary by model and module. Check the exact watch’s specifications and operation guide rather than assuming that every Pro Trek has the same sensors or functions.

Can I rely on the Pro Trek compass for a serious mountain climb?
Casio says the readings are for general reference and recommends carrying another compass for serious trekking or mountain climbing. Magnetic sources such as magnets, metal objects and electrical appliances can affect compass readings.
Does the pressure reading predict the weather?
A supported model may show pressure trends, a graph or a pressure-change indication, which can help you notice changing conditions. The watch is not a dedicated weather instrument, and a pressure reading alone is not a forecast.
Do all Triple Sensor models share the module 5602 ranges?
No. The cited compass, pressure, altitude and temperature figures are specifications for module 5602 only. Compare the module-specific documentation for the exact watch.
Do Pro Trek watches count steps?
Some models have an accelerometer for step counting. Casio’s overview says many Pro Trek watches include this feature, but it is not present on every model.
The Bottom Line
Pro Trek’s core Triple Sensor functions are a digital compass, a barometer and thermometer, plus an altimeter function calculated from pressure rather than directly sensed elevation. Pressure-related altitude can drift with weather, and compass and temperature readings have practical caveats. Features and specifications vary by model, so check the exact module guide; Casio describes the readings as general reference and advises carrying another compass for serious trekking or climbing.
