To use Bluetooth Auracast, you need an Auracast transmitter sending the audio and an Auracast receiver to play it. An assistant interface can help you find and select a broadcast, but it is not always required: some receivers can scan for broadcasts and let you join directly. Ordinary Bluetooth audio support alone does not establish Auracast compatibility.
The three roles in an Auracast setup
Auracast broadcasts audio for compatible receivers to pick up. The system has three functional roles: transmitter, receiver and assistant. A single device may support more than one role, so check the capabilities you need individually.

| Role | What it does | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Transmitter | Sends the audio stream and information describing the broadcast, such as its name and configuration. | A supported phone, laptop, TV, PA system or dedicated transmitter. |
| Receiver | Joins the broadcast and plays the audio. | Auracast-capable earbuds, headphones, speakers, hearing aids or other hearing devices. |
| Assistant | Finds available broadcasts and gives you a way to select one; it passes the information needed to join to the receiver. | A smartphone, smartwatch, hearing-aid remote, operating-system interface or app. |
The assistant is a discovery and control interface, not the device that plays the sound. Bluetooth SIG describes selecting a broadcast as similar to choosing a Wi-Fi network in a public place. Some receivers can scan and offer their own joining control, so an assistant is not a universal requirement. Bluetooth SIG’s Auracast overview and its role and operation guidance explain the system.

Only if the exact model supports Auracast reception. Being able to pair with a phone over Bluetooth, or having a particular Bluetooth version number, is not proof that headphones can receive an Auracast broadcast. Look for explicit Auracast receiver support in the manufacturer’s specifications or support information.

The same check applies to speakers and hearing devices. Bluetooth SIG identifies earbuds, headphones, speakers, hearing aids and other hearing devices as possible receivers; support varies by product and model. Its FAQ and technical information describe Auracast as using Bluetooth Core Specification features introduced in version 5.2 and the Public Broadcast Profile within LE Audio specifications. A version number alone does not confirm that a product implements the receiver role.
Do you need a phone to find and join a broadcast?
Not necessarily. A phone can provide the assistant interface, but some receivers can scan for broadcasts and let you choose one using a button, swipe or other built-in control. The available joining method depends on the receiver and its companion software.

Assistant functionality may be built into an operating system or provided by a third-party app. Bluetooth SIG developer guidance also describes receiver designs that can work with a standalone assistant app on legacy smartphones. Check the instructions for your receiver and the requirements of its specific app or control interface rather than assuming any Bluetooth phone will work. Bluetooth SIG’s Auracast information outlines the roles; its developer resources discuss implementation options.

Using Auracast with a TV or other audio source
The source must transmit an Auracast broadcast. A TV, phone, laptop or PA system is only a possible source category; not every model can transmit. Check the exact model for Auracast transmitter support.

- 【HQ Quality at Low Latency】 Enjoy minimal audio delay (<40ms) for immersive TV viewing and gaming experiences at 24 bit 48KHz HQ audio and a range of up to 300ft (100m) with line-of-sight, all powered by LC3 - the new audio codec standard.
- 【Plug-and-Play Setup】 Power the transmitter and connect it to the TV audio output. Turn on the headphones. Voila! They will connect automatically.
- 【Seamless Multi-Device Connectivity】 Effortless switching between your TV and mobile audio, similar to the seamless experience of Apple AirPods transitioning across iOS and MacOS devices. If you have multiple BA210 Broadcasters, switch among up to three TVs with a single press on the headphones.
- 【Wide Compatibility】 Bundled with 3.5mm AUX, RCA and Toslink Optical audio cables, it works with all TVs on the market. Also PlayStation, PS3/4, Xbox, Blu-ray/CD players, set-top boxes, projectors, AV receivers, and HiFi systems.
- 【Lightweight and Comfort】 LE Audio provides higher audio quality at lower power, enabling headphones to carry a smaller battery to maintain the same battery life. The JM320 headphones weigh less than 7oz (190g), making them one of the lightest in their class, without sacrificing comfort or playtime.
If the TV already supports Auracast
Use its broadcast function and confirm that your listening device supports Auracast reception. Follow the TV and receiver manufacturers’ instructions for discovery and joining.
If the TV does not support Auracast transmission
An aftermarket Auracast transmitter may add the capability. Match the transmitter’s input to an audio output actually available on your TV. Bluetooth SIG’s examples of transmitter designs include adapters or dongles and small boxes with optical, HDMI ARC or 3.5 mm inputs. A product described merely as a “Bluetooth transmitter” is not necessarily an Auracast transmitter. Consult the Bluetooth SIG transmitter recommendations and verify the exact adapter model’s Auracast support and connector requirements.

What to check before buying or setting up
- Identify the listening device. Confirm that the exact earbuds, headphones, speaker or hearing device supports the Auracast receiver role.
- Check the source. Verify that the exact phone, TV, laptop or PA system can transmit Auracast. Do not infer transmission support from its Bluetooth branding or version number.
- Confirm how you will join. Find out whether the receiver has its own scan-and-select controls or needs a compatible assistant interface, such as an app or operating-system feature.
- For an adapter, match the connection. Check that the TV or source has an output the transmitter accepts, and that the transmitter explicitly supports Auracast broadcasting.
- Verify the model and region. Check current manufacturer documentation for the precise model and the desired role. Bluetooth SIG’s product directory provides examples, but says availability can change and directs buyers to manufacturers for product details.
Can an existing device be upgraded?
Sometimes, but there is no general upgrade promise. Bluetooth SIG says its specifications allow field upgrades in principle; whether a manufacturer provides one depends on the product’s existing Bluetooth capabilities and the manufacturer’s strategy. It expects some product types to be upgradeable and many TVs to require a hardware upgrade. Check the manufacturer’s current support information for your model. If a TV cannot be upgraded, a compatible external transmitter is one possible route.

The venue needs a transmitter or broadcast system configured to send Auracast audio, and listeners need compatible receivers. Bluetooth SIG’s venue guidance recommends making a Standard Quality Public Broadcast Audio stream available for broad compatibility. It names hearing aids, cochlear implants, earbuds and headphones as examples of listening devices. Ask the venue whether the broadcast is available and check that your receiver supports the required stream and joining method. Bluetooth SIG’s venue guidance covers public deployments.
